: Transmission capable of 1000hp
Lars Sundin 03-30-2008, 09:10 AM Hi There
I will swap my tranny to get something that can handle 1000hp+ for a 02 DMax 4X4
I´m running a suncoast today with a co pilot that slips and goes into limp mode
I want something that last this time so that i won´t have to swap tranny one more time.
Is ATS extreme the best option? or suncoast stageV?
And is there any vendors here that can supply me?
All the best trannys are sold as complete? nothing available that you can build yourself or let a swedish shop assemble?
Pulling season is soon here and i need my truck to be ready to hook up.
Thanks
Lars
TommJr 03-30-2008, 12:05 PM You are putting down a 1000+ H.P.?
If your tranny is assembled correctly, you should have no problem holding 700+.
Do a search on high power transmission's. You'll see alot of guys here running 650+ and not having a lot of problems.
messejme 03-30-2008, 12:57 PM ATS has some "send it back for inspection and repair" policy on their extreme transmission. But was your trannsmission assembled correctly?
Lars Sundin 03-30-2008, 01:11 PM The job was performed by a allison certified shop/vendor here in Sweden, top quality job.
This is four years ago and the upgrade was designed for 500hp so i´m just glad it lasted as long as it did.
most likely i will go for a ATS extreme
Wolford 03-30-2008, 01:51 PM Good luck bud.
HeavyHD 03-30-2008, 01:56 PM Im sure you could get a suncoast stage V shipped to you, get billet shafts and it should hold 1k.
ChevyDieselLLY 04-01-2008, 09:10 AM you can always build a sc stage IV your self. with billet shafts and a 1058 tc. just did my buddies about 2 weeks ago.
Lars Sundin 04-01-2008, 03:01 PM Thanks....or maybe i will go for a ATS extreme, keep my old trans and upgrade it for future use, how about that?
Any vendors for a ATS extreme here?
dentpusha 04-01-2008, 03:04 PM wade at ats..look in the vendor section
huthuthut 04-01-2008, 03:04 PM Suncoast 4 kit, Billet input/output shafts, Tcase Brace, Billet Extension Housing, SC converter of your choice, Maybe a Mike L tranny cooler and snake oiler?
Lars Sundin 04-01-2008, 03:07 PM Ok...will try to find him.
thanks!
ChevyDieselLLY 04-01-2008, 05:38 PM good luck hope it works out for you.
guess everyone saying SC doesnt help you out much
Tony Burkhard 04-01-2008, 05:54 PM I can help you out on that ATS trans.
gtmax 04-01-2008, 08:55 PM good luck hope it works out for you.
guess everyone saying SC doesnt help you out much
CDLLY would you please explain your second line so that even I can understand?
radvans 04-02-2008, 01:36 AM You had the trans for 4 years. How long did you expect it to last running...well you didn't say your hp but lets say it is 500hp. That's alot and any trans would probably need to be refreshed after 4 years.
Did you have a convertor? Who's was it? What model?
A SC3 will easily handle 500hp if setup correctly. Not sure it will last over 4 years but that is to be expected.
ATS makes good products also and it looks like you have a vendor that is willing to help you out and knows how to really build an alli. Many vendors claim to be able to build trans but not that many can really do it. In 1 hour you could search on this site and find countless amounts of info to answer any of your questions.
There are guys on the site running the fastest dmax's in the country with alli trans and so I'm sure you can find something here to fit your build.
Good luck.
Lars Sundin 04-02-2008, 02:26 AM I´ve had it for four years and no complains at all, it was expected to last for a couple of years at most. I was running 500hp at that time.
Convertor was from SC as well.
In the last year i have made some major upgrade to the engine and at wot i get a ses light with limpcode.
I planning for some serious pulling over here this season so thats why i was thinking that it would be e great investment to get a extreme tranny.
ChevyDieselLLY 04-02-2008, 10:01 AM CDLLY would you please explain your second line so that even I can understand?
i said that becuase he seems to want to keep with the ATS, yet everyone even myself is talking about SC. and us just telling him to go with something totaly different doesnt help him out with what he has. i know ATS is a great product, but ive only worked with SC, as has many other guys on this site.
so yes he could rebuild his entire trans with SC parts but if he wants to run big power with ATS then us telling him to do something else doesnt help much.
radvans 04-02-2008, 11:08 AM Both trans builders have made great strides in the last 4 years.
Either company will be able to provide you with parts that will hold 650-750hp. Once past that there are many tricks of the trade that are required, some even for this amount. If you trans builder is not aware of these tricks you will still have problems.
I would call some of the trans shops from this site and talk to them to determine exactly what you will need to hold 1000+hp, that's alot. Englewood Trans on the west coast and Merchant toward the east are some of the larger trans builders that have dealt with many high hp applications and could give you some pointers. Both have been great help to many on this site.
Good luck.

You haven't answered my question, just run around it.
You've made that statement that "guess everyones saying SC doesn't help you out much". What's this supposed to mean? SC doesn't provide customer support? Doesn't stand by there warranty? What are you posting without backup???
For your info this was a SC kit installed by who knows who. Whose transmission are you runing in your truck?

I think what he is trying to say is that he has already made up his mind that he wants the ATS Extreme. A lot of people were telling him to go with the Suncoast, but he only talked about the Extreme. Meaning, he asked for some opinions but he had already made up his mind that he wanted the ATS Extreme. It didn't matter what opinions he got, he had already made up his mind...?
Am I Correct on this?

do you work for SC or something? cause to me it seems like he answered your question perfectly clear yet your attacking him saying hes got no backup for what hes saying. the guy seemed to have his mind made up on going with ATS for his next tranny and he was looking for more info on that tranny so having everyone tell him SC, SC, SC doesnt help him get more info on the ATS extreme like he was looking for, does that make sense to you?? and CDLLY please correct me if im wrong but thats what i understood from what you said, it didnt seem like you were trying to say anything bad about SC.
