Well today Kilo (another member on here) and I removed his transfer case, and installed the kennedy plate so he would not have to worry about the pump rub hopefully for good. All together, it took us 4 hours, that was start to finish, and with over an hour of talking Military crap when another friend of mine showed up, we shot the crap for over an hour then finished up, had lunch and got him on his way.

I highly recommend doing something, anything to protect your transfer case because it is just so easy of a fix...........either the Kennedy plate, or the Merchat housing. Just do not rely on the stock set up to keep you good!

This was the first time I saw the plate, and I think it will be just fine IF it is installed before any problems or damage is done to the case, Also I truely believe 2 people can do it in 2 hours if they have done one before, so I will shoot for the 2 hour mark the next go around, if there is a next time.

Good luck with your truck Fritz, and we gotta go fishing sometime!

Have you ever seen/heard about a fix that puts plastic or some other synthetic tabs over the old pump? My neighbor is putting them in his truck after the transmission guy that fixed mine showed him the tabs in a trade journal. I don't know where he is getting them, but supposedly they are only a couple bucks for the 4 tabs. I'm happy with Erics fix and don't know if I would trust some plastic clip or not. At 83K, my truck had just a shinny spot but no wear.

I have not heard of them, do you have a name of the product? If I were paying someone to install, I would spend the extra bucks for the better product. I to have the M/A pump housing, and that is the best in my opinion, but if someone were to want to save money, and do something before any damage occurs, I would go with the plate, but I think that after any dent is put in the case half, the plate may/might/might not fail, but I would want to shore up the dent if the clip has failed and dents have been put in the case half.

Over all, with a million mile warranty, I would spend the extra change and go with the pump housing.

I agree, the M/A pump kit is worth the piece of mind. I'll talk to my neighbor and see if he knows who the transmission guy is getting the pieces from. The transmission guy told me when he did mine that there were several fixes he had seen but Erics looked like the strongest. I see you have helped a lot of people fix their rub, my hats off to you!

Tolliwacker - I have been following your posts for some time now and just want to thank you for all your help. When you did the kennedy transfer plate upgrade with/for kilo, what and how much fluid? Still looking for someone to assist me here in Wisconsin with the kennedy plate.

I too have been following a lot of your posts and appreciate the info. I need to replace my case and was wondering if anybody sells rebuilt cases with either the merchant automotive or kennedy plate already installed?

We put 3 quarts of 5W-30 Synthetic Motor oil into his case.
It is an EEASY install, the only hard part, if you want to call it hard is the snapring in the tailshaft, it is more anooying than difficult.

Good luck, and give it a go with a friend and a couple of hand tools!

Merchant sells the whole enchilada with the pump housing already installed if I am not mistaken.

Or you could browse Sleazebay and find a rebuilt one, there is a group out of Memphis who sells them IIRC, then you could just install the pump housing or plate when it arrives!
