a buddy was telling me about a problem with his truck, so here goes. he says every now and then about 1 in 100 starts or so, he says he loses prime, it just wont start. then he pumps the primer to build pressure and its fine. its set a code and he cant remember it but it says that its out of fuel. its an 03. any idea. he has replaced the fuel filter several times too.??

Did he open the bleeder screw on top of the filter housing when he was doing all that pumping. The purpose of the pump, I think, is to pump the air out of the supply line, bring fuel up to, and fill the filter. Unless this is done the truck injector pump might air lock on the suction side, Thats an uneducated guess.Be sure the filter O rings are in place.

o-rings are there, but it makes sence about the bleeder, he only opened that up when he changes the filter. so if the air bubble is there and he puts pressure to it, it might make the bubble small enough to get fuel.
