grayareagomer 03-29-2008, 02:38 PM I've got 21 and change on the highway following my dad at 70-75. In the country I get about 17 over the hills and around the bends. I got 14 or 15 stock, so it definately went up with the mods. BUT, my truck only weighs 4800 lbs. with 3.42 gears.
gmperfomance03 03-29-2008, 05:00 PM 12 mpg consistanly on my old 6.0
diesel_dream 03-29-2008, 05:21 PM with my old 4.8 about 15.5 and with my 6.0 about 11
BullydogPowered 03-29-2008, 06:41 PM with my new 5.3 (1100) miles im looking at 14.9 on my trip to work which is 10 miles one way, a little highway, a little city. i think it will go up some, at least a MPG. have no idea what it will do right now all highway....
Years ago had a 2003 GMC 1500 4x4 (3.73 gears) with the 5.3 that would get almost 20 MPG on the highway if you drove it right.
tomsws6 03-29-2008, 09:10 PM 06 denali p/u awd stock got 15.5 hwy and 10 around town. with superchip upload i get 17.5 hwy and around 11-12 around town. if your looking fro mpg then i would say the 5.3 is the way to go.
B-Dawg2 03-30-2008, 12:20 AM I have an 08 Tahoe with the 5.3 and 4.10 gears. It averages approx. 16 mpg daily commute and 18-20 mpg on the highway @65-70. This is my wife's vehicle, and it is driven very lightly. I hope the mileage will improve after some more miles.

You can get 4.10 gearing in the Tahoe. My window sticker lists it as a $100 option.
TheChevyHDMan 03-30-2008, 07:23 AM 2001 6.0 11 mpg sold to my brother
Current 07.5 6.0 (in avatar) 10 in town, 5 plowing snow, Highway 16+.
I need to get the 07.5 updated, Between the sloppy shifts, excessive downshifting etc I bet I could get better mileage than 10mpg in town
Bill
My 99 5.3 with 3.73 gears and 325/60/18 tires got about 14ish, my 2005 2500HD with 6.0 gets 10 at best with 4.10's and 35x12.50/18 tires.
jlandry_indians 03-30-2008, 10:42 AM My 2004 crewcab 5.3 gets about 14 in the city and 17-18 on the highway at 70-75. If I back down to 60-65 I can 19 and change.
rb3500 03-30-2008, 10:55 AM my wife's 05 Tahoe w/4.10's averages 16.5 mpg mostly in town
Jaybeecon 03-30-2008, 11:16 AM My brother's '05 CC 5.3 with 17" wheels averages 17 to 18 in a city/highway mix. On highway trips he stays just above 21. He usually runs fairly empty with a cover over the bed. Towing his 16' enclosed trailer with a total weight of about 5K he gets 13 all highway.
danb303 03-30-2008, 10:17 PM We had a 03 tahoe 5.3 with 323 gears. It got around 16-18 regular driving and it got 23 on a long road trip.
I have the 6.0 in the sig and it gets around 12-13 with hypertech and a KN FIPK kit. It got 14.14 one time, that was the best.
Overall I would say get the 5.3.
big truck big power 03-30-2008, 11:08 PM mine with the 4.8 and 3:42's with 265's gets about 22 at 65-70 but the 2K rmp sweet spot is about 80ish with this set up.
EDIT its 2wd
rgullett83 03-30-2008, 11:42 PM the 99 ECSB Z-71 5.3, 3.73, and 265's got about 16 in town, and 18.5 on the highway. My 03 6.0 1500HD CCSB 4wd and 3.73's and 265's 12 mpg no matter where it was at, foot on the floor or driving like my G-pa in town or highway.
