Help guys!
I keep getting the SES light on and the code reader says it's being triggered by the Mass Air Flow Sensor.
I think some oil from my K&N filter got on it -- would this cause it to throw codes? If so, how can it be cleaned? How?
The crazy things are $200+ and I don't want to replace it if I can try something else first!
Thanks for any help!

Jeff I pretty sure you can use electric contact spray, it drys the second you spray it on. I've seen someone else on here use it also with no problems. BigRedD/A

I called K&N about the over-oiling thing fouling out the MAF. They told me to use the Squeeze oil, not the spray. The Air filter needs only 3.38oz of oil to make it work. Any more then that you'll have problems. They told me to Move in 3/4" from the edge on the top of each pleat, apply a small amount all the way down and stop 3/4" from the end, watching how much you use. I guess there is a MAF sensor clearner out there, from what the tech said, available at most Auto stores.

You can use rubbing alcohol. I used it on my wifes blazer, it worked great. Just be sure to let it dry completely before placing it back inline. Got the idea since we use it to clean air sensors on ventilators in hospitals

rubbing achohol isnt generally very pure, its full of water and oild and all kinds of other nasty stuff. At work we cant use regular rubbing alchol for cleaning our plastic pipe before its joined.
I would use some methonol if you have a racer budy or get some everclear. Yes the booze:drinking:.
Edit: you can score rubbing alochol thats pure enough, its just a PITA. need the 99% pure stuff IMO, its what we use for cleaning the poly pipe before we join it.

I agree with ARGUY, Take it off & spray with brake cleaner,Careful tho, they are easy to damage.

Take it off before you clean it. Electric parts cleaner, ether, whatever but keep it out of the intake.

use elect. parts cleaner spray...... I have cars come into my shop with a mass air flow sensor code and nine times out of ten it is due to an over oiled aftermarket air filter... I would run an OE filter for sure........ less hassle..........

Also check the contacts that the MAF plugs into.My MAF was replaced under warranty but the techs also replaced three contacts that were corroded.I wonder if the MAF was actually bad or just bad contacts.
