Anyone use these? I found some in my area on sale for about the same price as fleet filter. Just wondering if I should stock up and not have to pay shipping.

Hello ST04,

Excellent auxiliary in-line fuel filter/water separator. I had one installed on each of the two 6.2 subs (NA and TD) I used to own. First thing I installed on my 6.5TD Tahoe.

Regards,
Franko

This is just a factory replacement for the duramax. Looks just like the wix filters I got from fleet. They just have them on sale at my biodiesel place.

Parker/Racor white dual pleat is the one I've used on the LLY and LBZ since day one. Never a problem. I think the P/N is PFF5544. I DO however, think it's a 5 micron as opposed to the newer 2 micron. I'm satisfied with it. Originally it was the only filter available for Duramaxes. No matter whose name was on it, it was the same filter.

Thanks for the info I will make sure this one is 2 microns, as I am going to run some bio with it.

Thats not it. I know the have the prefilter, but this is just the canister for the regular stock fuel filter. Just like the OEM version, except racor makes it. I called and they do have a 2 micron filter at 25.00 a piece. I am just wondering if I should stock up locally or get some more from fleet filter for about the same price, just have to wait to get them.

$25 is a good price. I've been paying $28 + shipping for mine from Greg a vendor here. http://lubricationspecialist.com/front/index.aspx They're always delivered within a couple of days.

I believe they are 5 micron. If I am wrong, someone will let us know! ;)

Holy Censored I have been forking out 40 bucks a pop for these suckers + driving 30 miles round trip to S E Power in Tampa to buy them. The Stealership wants 50 a piece for them. Racor also makes Wix, I have been using Racor fuel filters from day one and Wix oil filters. I was told that the Racor filter is what GM uses on the D Max different label and part number.

That is what the guy at the biodiesel shop told me that the OEM GM filter is made by Racor. I did pick up 3 of them Friday along with a 55 gal drum of B100. I am mixing it 40/60, 50/50 right now and it runs great. I also have a filter on my electric pump to pre filter it before it hits my tank.

Actually I got tired of not knowing for sure and wondering all along if I've been using a 5 micron. Well now I know it's 2 micron. It's pretty painfull to negotiate Parker's website (as I knew from searches for work) but I finally got there.
Here you go: http://www.parker.com/portal/site/PARKER/menuitem.7100150cebe5bbc2d6806710237ad1ca/?vgnextoid=f5c9b5bbec622110VgnVCM10000032a71dacRCR D&vgnextfmt=default&vgnextdiv=687630&vgnextcatid=3492517&vgnextcat=PFF5544&vgnextfmt=EN

And what's really nice is they give a part # cross reference to boot...

Maybe this stuff should go into a sticky.

I see there are some discrepancies between the fuel filter lists so I tried to paste the info in but it won't go. I'll type it in tomorrow. The 2nd link I posted doesn't open except through the 1st link. Any way RI man, are you going to post a link to your list as a sticky at the top? That would solve a ton of redundant questions.

I bought the Racor PFF5544 (2 micron, two layer) fuel filter from Lubrication Specialists for $28 plus shipping. You can get six for $168 and they pay the shipping.

http://lubricationspecialist.com/front/index.aspx

Racor makes the GM filters. GM wants the parts business, so they do not allow Racor to sell these filters to anyone else, so the Wix, Baldwin, etc filters are not OEM filters. They may look the same but they aren't. (Everyone says their filters are equivalent to the OEM filters, but how do you know that's true? I've seen a lot of "equivalent" filters that were really junk! I'd rather be safe than sorry.)

The high pressure common rail fuel systems used on the Duramax engines since 2005 require the 2 micron filters to protect the fuel system. The 5 micron filters allow more debris past the filters which will increase fuel pump and injector wear. Ironically, the initial wear increases injector tip hole size and actually increases engine power. However, that's a short lived benefit because the next things to go are the high pressure plungers. After that it's pretty much downhill.

Thanks whynot......I checked when you posted and they are on sale for $23.95.....bought 3...but have to pay for shipping....so it is about "sixes" per each, if you buy the above offer for 6 but the shipping is free.

Thanks, Eric

Sure beats the $110.00 that I spent on the very first one I had done at the dealer (going into winter and time costraints)......I also bought Marchant's handy filter tool and his filter head repositioning gadget.....:D

This is an old thread, and maybe some of the info has changed, but post #16 has some good info in regards to filter cross references that I was searching for.
Post #25 also has some good info.

Just wanted to bring it back to the top.

If any of the info has changed, or is incorrect, please post. This will help a lot of people looking for alternatives.

OLD info and part numbers. Newest is a 4 micron rated -Racor/AC DELCO/GM are the Racor coalescing two stage media.

Be careful at Carquest as the "red label" consumer/low cost line part number is an off-shore product of the previous design. Not sure on Blue label (premium) part though as my Carquest didn't have one on hand at the time.

Current per my records -not a complete list for sure
