My '06 puked the original ISS, one old style and one new style replacement and still clunked. Replacing this bearing finally brought some peace and quiet. Flunky engineering design with metal ball bearings against plastic races?!

I replaced my bushing with the green one also, and It finally cured my clunk but it seems that it is starting to come back again after 15,000 miles. I have the latest version of the steering shaft and it is tight as can be, I am convinced that the problem is the inferior quality bushing that they put in the steering column.

I have the new shaft installed about 1k ago. I have noticed a clunk here and there. It is not as bad as before. I am looking to get rid of this as well. I have a green bushin but the noise is there. What is my next step?

Thanks for the headsup and part#. I just got in a new ISS for my wife's Yukon (my truck got the newest one first of this year). The Yukon is the WORST sounding ISS that I have driven or heard - rattles like crazy all the time. Ordered a new bearing for each of them so both will have new ISS and new bearings. Hope to do away with this rattle for a good long while.

Hello all, i was at the local stealer today to get a lower steering shaft bearing....The parts counter guy commented to me that he has heard that there might be a recall on the the 88963617 bearing, has anyone else heard this too? In any case he went on to say it won't cure the rattle long term but it is an improvement over the last design.

GM's long history of this steering shaft/steering column bearing issue is a complete joke ...pathetic really. You would think someone could design/build a freaking steering column/shaft that last the life of the truck. Then again, I should know better by looking at the size of the OEM tie rods. The steering/front suspension on these trucks resemble that of something built out of my son's tinker toys. "Built like a Rock" yeah, right.
On edit: Yeah I'm a little hot about this crap ...2nd truck which I am on my 2nd, or is it 3rd steering shaft and already replaced the steering column bearing after a whopping 8K miles.

Is this new bushing just as easy to replace as the intermediate shaft? Has anyone replaced their's themselves?
Thanks in advance!
