hey guys I was wondering about what trans temp you guys see in stop and go traffic about 80 degrees. I bought mine last winter so it has been cool and now starting to warm up and my gauge shows close to 200 around town. I am also on 35's. also one more ? I have read on here about the allison learning ? can any one give me some info on that please to what it does and how ?

The TCM ,transmission control module, moniters the input and output shafts to check for slipping. If it detects it, it adjust the timing of the clutch engagement to eliminate it. Your temp seems a little high. I would first check that the fluid level is about at the half qt. low when hot as it will run hotter if full. If it is it would be a good time to change the external filter without prefilling to lower the level. If you have an allison dealer near you they have the best price on the filter.

The Alli also learns when you change tunes. You may experience some infrequent shifting after you do this. It will smooth out after a bit. I run 35's and in town I can get up to 200. Once I get that hot, I hit T/H and they come back down after a few cycles.

so you would rec having the fluid level at the low mark on the dip stick when at opp temp ? because right now it is at the full mark at opp temp

If you stay in first gear for a long time, such as rock crawling, or off load work, the temp well run up. I have seen 200 degrees too often.
In regular mode the converter doesn't lock until about 40 miles per hour.
In Tow/Haul mode the converter should lock at over 20 MPH and in second or higher gear.
Both will being down the temp.

Most recommendations I have seen indicate 1/8" to 1/4" below "full-hot" mark with truck level and tranny temp at 150 degrees or so. I think the "low" mark is a bit too low.

You already have a tranny cooler on your truck. Mine runs 180 in the summer time, and 150 in the winter. Never seen 2000 on this one, but did on my a couple of my others.

Mike L (Forum vendor) sells a tranny cooler.

Hit the T/H button when your in stop-an-go traffic. The tranny will stay a lot cooler because the TC will be locked in the lower gears. You'll use a lot less brake also.
