Since I talk to Stefan not too long ago I'll give you a little data he relayed to me. Max egt before twins was 1500* with the predator. Now the max is 1100* with 36psi of boost. Cruising egt's (I dont know what mph he was running but it was freeway speeds. I'd assume around 70mph) are running around 580* which is down as well but how much I dont know. Now if he'd remove that D@MN cat and muffler things might be even better. He can add more tomorrow if I missed anything.

50 would be typical for most of these engines. PSD and Cummins both hold that stock. Question now is how long can it handle multiple cycles.

With my new truck I make 62psi and have probably made 200+ pulls to that boost level. I do have studs in my truck though. I do know a guy that blew his headgasket running 80psi daily. He had studs in his truck as well.

What's the most boost that someone has seen with an LLY or LB7, yesterday I made 36psi just passing someone of the highway no heavy accel or anything. This was done with just the predator, no edge. I've got the regulators set at 50psi, but I don't know if the truck will handle that much. If it blows my Dad will say that was a :badidea: and you can fix it. :help:

WOW.... 2000 Posts... Amazing.
I guess i am just a glutton for punishment;)

DTT is so close to releasing their TWINS it isn't funny. IIRC they will be releasing BOTH Kits LB7 and LLY setups in the same relative timeframe after we do some testing on my DMX that we all know doesn't make over 500RWHP (LOL)

Nathan for sure will do that tuning before it is released in kit form. Something about so much fuel, fast spool, controlling the upper limit boost# etc.

The LLY even as fuel starved as it is at the moment lights this charger quite nicely (coeurtesy of the LLY VNT turbo helping 'Big Momma' with spool time)

You guys are gonna be impressed.....Enough so that you'll kick your Laughing Gas Addiction. ):h

His truck SOTP feels as fast with the predator on high as mine does with the CJuice cranked to 5x5!

but... his EGT's are only 1000F accelerating past 75 mph..... mine are 1400+

That set-up is nothing like mine.:ro) Although best of luck on that set-up.

For those wondering we should have these set-ups ready in roughly 6 weeks, it's in my truck and runs great will be on juices very shortly so that we can provide something for the LLY and LB7's. The reason I haven't shown any pics is because I don't want to have people R & D'ing (Rob and Duplicating) this set-up.

Now for some questions for the Twins experts.

I've measured drive pressures over 100 PSI  in my 04.5 LLY. Full throttle run to 80 or so with Juice on KILL (which isn't really much).

How are you getting around the drive pressure issue of the factory turbo?

Is the new charger the before the VNT as far as exhaust routing is concerned?

Not trying to divulge info, but I'm amazed that it is workable with the factory turbo/turbine housing. Rocky mountain diesel is supposed to be working on a larger turbine housing for the VNT in the 6.0L which is the same charger as we use, as you well know.

Thanks for any info you can provide,

Brayden

dpfcummins
02-02-2005, 07:00 PM
There is no way to drop drive pressures on the stock charger enough, the exhaust housing is too small and restrictive. The performance of the big charger is going to be limited by the ability to get the exhaust to the big charger, been there done that with an LB7. What's that little 50lb boost gauge for anyways, lol. Matt

dpfcummins
02-02-2005, 07:09 PM
Just for the guys that dont messure drive pressure or dont really have an idea of what they should be @. To have a good turbo setup your backpressure vs. boost readings should be @ 1:1. So yeah Brayden your drive pressure is:eek: . But thats what the stock charger gives us unless they get a different exhaust housing out. Just remember backpressure will pop a head gasket just like boost. Matt

Brayden
02-02-2005, 07:24 PM
Garrett must make larger turbine housings for this turbo? Right... Anybody have the exact model name etc for our turbo?

I guess to properly phrase it the twins on Stefans truck are actually compounded turbos not twins. It has become common to call them twins in the diesel world despite the fact that they are actually compounded. I see that the ones you posted pictures of are actual twins (or parallel) turbos. Interesting concept and I hope it works out for whomever is building them. The Cummins guys haven't had much success with it but that doesn't mean it cant be done successfully.

Is that your way of being defensive, or what? What I meant by that is Dyno’s can be tweaked with to show jacked numbers. I’m just asking to have the runs done with an independent observer that has nothing to gain. I’m sure the twins will make some sweet power; I just really want to know honest to goodness true numbers. Is that too much to ask?

Is that your way of being defensive, or what? What I meant by that is Dyno’s can be tweaked with to show jacked numbers. I’m just asking to have the runs done with an independent observer that has nothing to gain. I’m sure the twins will make some sweet power; I just really want to know honest to goodness true numbers. Is that too much to ask?
Not too much to ask at all.
Who's dyno? I asked the question?
I have nothing to defend here.
When am i picking you up to observe?

Ignore it WAZZU

I'll swing by CDA or Spokane after the party if you do not make it. Call you up and you can go for a rip!

On Edit... the Boost#'s and Dyno numbers can be kept secret if you want it that way. Less competition then):h
I might still be in pullman, but if ya call me about an hour and a half before you get to spokane I might be able to make it up there:ro) -Jeff

The dyno Juice is going to be dynoing on is a Dynojet 248HW. It's a 100 slug inertia dyno. I've made 100+ runs on my own trucks on them and despite trying all kinds of techniques I have never found a way to squew/cheat on the results. Sure some techniques will show a little better results but if done consistently they are usually within 1-2hp of one another and none are radically different then the way everyone runs on a Dynojet. It's a dyno day and there will probably be close to 100 people there to verify the runs that Juice does. I dont know if there will be time to dyno before the install as we are both on somewhat tight timelines but if we can make it happen we will.

:funnypost That was funnny! Their not to far from Bend, Oregon so we'll see. Whether I’m there or not, really doesn’t matter. More than likely you wouldn’t like having me around anyway. :confuzeld

Steph or DTT or whomever isn't the first to develop twins or will be the last, what matters is the person or company that comes up with the best setup weather it be twins, compounds, or a honking single that makes the most power in the end. I’m just interested in seeing how it all plays out, but air is only one part of the equation, as we all know. We shall all see.

I can tell that if you ask a question about DTT or Steph that y’all get very defensive. Kinda like the crap I used to read on the TDR.

Not everyone cares about who makes the most hp. Sure I think it is important for companies to make a good showing with their respective products but 99% of the people that buy aftermarket stuff for their trucks do not go to the extreme. Compounded/Twin turbos have become popular because they offer good driving characteristics with the ability to use a large portion or all of that hp constantly without egt issues. Twin turbos will never make as much hp as a single and nitrous can but you can use them every day without filling a bottle and you dont have to flip a switch or open a valve to have fun when you want to, just mash it and go. Drivability, to the average consumer, rates pretty high on most peoples list and that is why we went this route.

I do know a thing or two about hp as well so I think with the right canidate (juice for example) you'll see some pretty high #2 only numbers. Heck I might even get myself one of those Dmax's to play with. A 2wd standard cab LB7 sounds good but a LLY would be more of a challenge. If it were to end up with a 4 link and slicks then so be it ):h .

Bend Oregon! You are too close not to come!
Come on down, the more the merrier!

Ask any question about Stefan or DTT. All I know is they put me up in their house the last 2 days, Fed me, wined and dined me, Got to meet Lazer Bob from Colorado (DTT Installer, helluva nice guy too.... patience of jobe when we were doing that exhaust)

All i can comment on is my own positive experience at DTT, and i do know others would mimic that.

Everybody has their loyalties.... Everybody. I have found a lot of one's experience (DTT EDGE SUNCOAST PDR ATS TTS et al) Depends on 3 things.
Customer Satisfaction
Personal interaction
Value for the $$$$ Spent
And to that end, to each their own.
I am not looking to make the most power; but EGT relief will be nice, and the ability to take on McRat's Z06 (LOL @ MCR no offence, and no i ain't betting on it either until the cal tracs and sleeves are done)

It's pretty tough to fool the Dynojet except by correction factor, and that is visible on the printout.

Many people trash the dynojet, but sometimes it's good not to have any adjustments.

And Juice?

Why would you pick on a lowly 2v per cylinder 5.7 liter naturally aspirated car? ;)

You'd never win that one. The fuse would be hidden better, and I can go 150+ HP wetshot on a gasser.

I live my life a 1/4mi at a time.

I'm always up for a race. But usually I like being the underdog.

One thing I noticed from my nitrous dynos on the truck, is that more air seems to push the peak HP up the RPM scale. I didn't make peak HP before the revlimiter kicked in at 3400, it was still climbing. Maybe because it was nitrous, but I'd make sure you have a program in that can spin to 4000 just in case.

Juice,

Good to meet you last week. I had a blast.

If you go racing you might take out some of the extra cargo, or not, It's kind of nice to beat someone and see the reaction when you show them about 1000# of stuff in the truck.

Bob,The pleasure was all mine! We sure had a blast on that exhaust install!:ro)
but i gotta say, I have never seen so many fingers inside of Allison all at once;)
Dang good time, an meeting good people makes the effort worthwhile!
Hope to make it down to Colorado one day and look you up Bob!
I have a feeling we will meet up again! Rumor has it you have enjoyed the ride in my DMX!..... darn thing is going to lose it's tiny cloud of smoke though:rolleyes:

Hope your flight went well!
Only took me 15 hours to get home.... snow on every pass and that F-350 dually crew L/B DOES NOT HAVE 4WD!
I was real busy behind the wheel trying to keep it straight.
Ran across the 7 bad accidents and one where a fella took out 6 sections of steel reinforced concrete rail on a bridge and plunged 250 feet to the columbia river.... the bad news is they figure he was alive.... was pinned in the vehicle and drowned.....just goes to show us all that we need to live each day like it is our last

Anyhow, LaserBob is now officially Juicegrip(TM) certified!
Congratulations on passing the exam Bob!:ro)
