I've noticed that you can getDuramax equipped trucks (Usually 01's) for some good prices on ebay. These truck are getting close to being out of warranty. How smart of a thing would this be to buy? I'm not looking to build a drag racer. I'm wanting something to drive solo and pull my horses with. Possible mods for me would be intake and giving the muffler the boot.
Thanks in advance.
You really need to be careful that it wasn't abused. Check for all signs of performance add-ons. Any sign of them and I would pass. You have a bunch to choose from so skip the beat ones. I don't care what anybody says.... this rule applies for all auto purchases unless you are in the market for a beat auto/truck.
Look for completely stock intake and exhaust. The more stock drivetrain and enginewise the better.
Expect to have injectors replaced. May not but expect it. Figure that in with the price... like $3000.

Actually they still have 200k on some parts of the engine on 2001's. As long as the price is rt it sounds like you cant go wrong along with hoot said.
i would look hard at any of them, but I wouldnt necesarily pass because the exhaust or something else was upgraded. the more stock the better, but if a truck is in good condition why not ?
Only reason I say is there are previuos owners that don't believe in performance upgrades... even exhaust. They believe the truck is fine the way it is and often take excellent care of them. That is the truck I would be looking for.
I am in no way saying any of us here should refrain from addons :thumb:

is it true what the dealer told me when buying my duramax 2003, the dealer told that the truck can go 500k no problem, get top dollar in trade, it will outlast a gas engine.
new at it but i love the truck, never go back to gas engine.

I bought my DMax off of Ebay with 97k miles on it. Was a wholesale broker out of Dallas. Was a CC/LB LT with a 6in lift. Got a really good deal and it still is doing great 25k miles later. I did have to have the injectors replaced under warranty two weeks after I got it. I was down for five weeks. That was the only downside.

Diesel Jockey, I bought mine off of E-Bay & flew to the Dallas area & drove it home. First thing I would do if buying again, I would get the vin# & have one of our boys check it out by the vin#. It was too late for me, BUT I was pleased to see that my 3/4 2500 C/C L.T. D/A had the injectors replaced about 2 months before I bought it. The way I see it, it was my thinking to go ahead & get the truck as the injectors had been replaced already!! It now has 116k on it & runs great!! If you check, you will see that the most owners live in the state of Texas. I also got a 200k warranty on the injectors.
Tel9000, it looks like we might have bought from the same place. I bought mine from a wholesaler also in Dallas.

Which parts would be under warrenty until 200k? Also, would I run into any dealer problems since I didn't buy the vehicle from them? I'm just finishing college, and want a truck that I know will last me a few good years. Thanks guys
