: Looking for Gage Advice

I was hoping to get some advice on gages (EGT and Boost) I have the following questions:

1) I would like them to look as close to stock as possible. I like the Ford style where they are in the A-pillar, but I have a speaker in mine. Are there any available for this?

2) How difficult are they to install? Not that it's an issue, as I am pretty fluent with tools, but I how much time should I plan for?

3) Do I have to install all new sensors or can I use existing stock ones? I know there is a boost sensor, but is there one for EGT?

4) If I can use existing sensors, where are they and are there any negatives, such as poor accuracy or interference with the computer?

Thanks in advance for your help. THIS IS THE BEST SITE ON THE WEB!:ro)

rmhrobsky,

We have all the A pillars from Auto Meter that have the speaker locations in them like OEM, we also have a really nice time saver wiring harness set up for the gauge installations, saves a ton of time and lots of extra trips to the hardware store for those little items you didn't know you needed.

If you want near as possible to stock looking gauges get the Auto Meter Z series or the DiPricol gauges. We have pics on our site at www.dieselperformanceparts.com if you would like to see them. Installation isn't difficult if you have basic hand tool experience. The sensor/tubing kits come with all of our gauges so you don't have to worry about that either.

Call us with any questions you might have.

Thank guys- those look great. As for the boost, what range does the LLY usually run in? Do you need the 60lb gage or the 30 lb gage?

Looking at several threads, it looks like max boost on stock LLYs' are in the 30lb range? Is this true? I want to be sure to buy the right gage (35 or 60 lbs) and dont want to buy a 60 if it will only use a fraction of the range.

Thanks for your help.

I can peg 35 pounds on the LLY with just the Juice. While you may never use the full range of 60 pounds I don't like guessing. A forty pound gauge might be a good option from ISSPRO.

The 30 pound just does not get it done for me.....

or if you decide to purchase the Edge and Attitude from one of the sponsors you have gauges built in for all kinds of stuff. I like the look of that dual guage setup in the above posts, but just preferred the Attitude since I had the Edge already.

Mine is currently displaying Boost, EGT's, Engine Temp, and Gear not to mention you get tranny protection with the Attitude as well.

just my $.02

:exactly: Briano beat me to the punch! Doesn't look like you are running any kind of programmer, YET! The E/J w/attitude does it all. That being said if you are looking to "launch" your truck, "pound" the rice burners, ... the E/J doesn't seem to be the best choice, at least not yet. Plenty of discussion on programmers and tuners on the P/P thread.

Dang it Briano, my Trippin ATS mount is sitting there on the dining room table just looking at me since you posted that picture. Pay the bills???? OR install the ATS mount. I best get dressed! :grd: Later. JJ

Thanks guys for all the info. For now I've decided to go with the Trippin overhead mount from socaldiesel and Autometer gages from dieselperformanceparts. I really like the looks of the Attitude, but I am trying to show some restraint for the time being (I've gone a bit wild lately according to the wife). Plus, I have not yet been able to pull with her yet, and I want to see how she does without any help first. Then, my wife is her primary occupant for now as the kids love the DVD! Also, I drive 50 miles one way to work and the price of diesel is not as favorable as it will be this summer when we really take it up the chute for gasoline! I feel most do not know what they are in for this year.

Not to mention I am a bit nervous about the potential of it being detected in the computer and having to take it out for stealer visits. I have a good friend who works at GM Powertrain and he says that there are telltale signs that can identify whether programmers have been used. Now that being said, if she does not pull to my expectations, then the risks might be worth it. But I definitely do not expect that to be the case!
