: Why can i hear my fuel pump thru the onstar mic?
PEVOMAN 01-31-2005, 09:45 AM In the mornings when i first get in the truck to start up, i will let the glowplugs do there thing...i also hear the fuel pump start up through the onstar mic(beside my head in the headliner) It goes away eventually. It reminds me of the old days of spark plug static through the speakers. any ideas?
Cobra#3747 01-31-2005, 10:01 AM Unless you added an electric lift pump, you dont hear one.
I am guessing that since you said you have something in the headliner next to your head, you have automatic climate control. If so, that is the ambient temp sensor for the interior. There is a small fan inside that can go bad sometimes and make noise.
PEVOMAN 01-31-2005, 10:24 AM Thanks for the corrections. Thats what happens when you assume things. Is that whats in the headliner above the drivers seat,...a sensor? Since i never have had a onstar system before...i thought it was some kinda mic for communication with onstar. As for the "fuel pump" sound...now that i think about it, it could be some type of fan motor...but the sound does come through the sensor or mic or whatever it is.
Max Power 01-31-2005, 10:27 AM If it is above your head to the left that is the fan for the climate control. Your on star mic is to your right above your head attached to the overhead console.
Max Payne 01-31-2005, 10:35 AM If the doo-dad above your head is making noise, give it a good hard thump with your knuckle, and it will go away. I have to do this alot on PDI's. It is the aspirator for the auto HVAC system, it has a small fan in it to pull in a fresh sample, rather than stagnant air.
PEVOMAN 01-31-2005, 10:50 AM thanks all
Max Power 01-31-2005, 10:50 AM You must be a Dodge mechanic in a former life. ):h :Nothing_f

Pull the screen off the sensor, take the A pillar trim off, have someone there with you, pull down on the headliner, its a tight fit, but you can get your hand in there and slide it out. You can do it on your own, but having someone else pull on the headliner, lets them concentrate on that, so you dont carried away trying to get your hand in there and crease the headliner.
PEVOMAN 02-25-2005, 08:30 AM Can i do without this Fartfan? What can i expect if i just gut the fan out of the sensor , but leave the temp sensor intact? How bout getting rid of the whole thing? Or would it be best to go to the stealer & buy another? thanks
Cobra#3747 02-25-2005, 11:31 AM Its only for the auto climate control, so if you dont want that to work, then dont worry about replaceing it.
Max Payne 02-25-2005, 12:24 PM This "hammer mechanic" still says to smack it and see if it goes away... I dare ya, what have you got to lose?
ratlover 02-25-2005, 02:11 PM Under warantee still I assume? let the dealer figure it out IMO
