Here is the question
I have a 2004 CC/SB 2500HD Duramax 4x4, on the door it has a front rating of 4670#
I looked at a 2005 CC/LB 3500 SRW Duramax 4x4, it has a rating of 4800#
I looked into it, the torsion bars are the same, the control arms are the same, the sway bar is the same, the shocks are the same, I can not find anything different in the front end for the added 130# increase in the front.
Anyone have a clue on this? Thanks

I think the 3500 has 265 tires up front where the 2500HD has 245's. Slight payload difference.

The front end is rated for hanging at least 1100# on the front. :D

Right, anything under a crew cab has the 4800# in the 2500HD
But the 3500 single rear wheel has the 4800# in the CC/LB.

duno.....but I can tell you, there isnt 1 set of torsion bars they use for the 4800# fawr. For instance a 6.0 with a plow prep and 4800# fawr may(and IIRC does) have a different bar than my truck(there is a code written on thier tag).
I would bet general marketing, engineering BS, arbitrary numbers pulled outa someones ass, ect.
I would say if you are concerend about a plow your truck should handle it......if your concerened about the legality of a plow johny law probably wont screw with you but its a risk, if your worried about warantee then its also a risk that hinges heavily on your dealer performing the work but if they want to be pricks they have to prove that what ever you did screwedit up.....but it may be a PITA to fight em.

It was something I had noticed, was curious if there was something that I was missing. Not worried about them checking me for the wieght, I think I would fall under the 4670 since no passangers or luggage :D
As for warranty... I guess if I dont turn myself in when I do any work on it, I shouldnt have a problem
