and going strong, runs and drives like new.
2002 GMC Savana 3500 extended cargo van, 6.5td/4l80e.
1 rear axle seal, 1 set of rear brake shoes (thanks to the axle seal), 2 oil cooler lines, 1 set of thermostats, 1 lift pump.
Not bad, huh?
Oil changed every 7,500mi (regular dino oil 15/40), fuel filter changed every 50,000mi, air filter changed every 25,000mi.
knock on wood, but I'm betting that this thing is going to go 500,000+ mi without any major issues. Pretty damn stout motor, these 6.5's are.

I got 286,000 kms on mine with only one injector pump change under warrenty at 172,000 kms (because of ext warr). Besides that nothing on the engine. Runs great and doesn't burn oil.

238K miles (my sig is a little behind), I have had more trouble with the transmissions and other parts than the actual engine. Knock on wood as well...:D

50,000 miles on a fuel filter is really pushin it

Careful on 50K mi fuel filter changes, I have this theory based on what I have seen on shipboard jet engine fuel filtration systems that go un attended, (yes it's a jet but fuel delivery same problems for every I.C.E. out there) that a filter fully clogged and no monitoring of DP across that filter can get blocked then get a hole in it as the lift pump is pushing and the IP is pulling, (does not have to be much of one a 5 micron hole or multiple ones just a bit smaller would be hard to see with mark 1 mod 0 eyeball & defect detection de-vice) and you are free flowing junk to the IP & injectors. There is no element bypass when these become blocked, nor is there even a simple pop up indicator .
5 micron is the rating of our on engine filter, I had a nearly new 5k mile one partially blocked rob me of power I had no indications of it until I tried to drag my 5600 lb GN trailer home empty. I could not make 40 mph, running with out the trailer 75-80 mph not problem. Had me stumped until a buddy known as RATDOC here and there suggested fuel filter I did not believe it possible as my filter was "new".
Changed it & got me to thinking how does one know when a filter really NEEDS changing, can get a bad load of fuel anywhere, now I have a big frame mounted filter 20 mic to knock out the water & "rocks" in the fuel, both engine and frame filters equipped with vac switches to let me know when filters are getting dirty.

Tim,
Which on-frame fuel filter do you have on your truck? Haven't seen much out there for the 6.5, only Dmaxes.

Racor 460, 445 is adequate but I went with 60gph for less restiction as I move closed to illusive 300 Hp 645, & 660 same filt without primer bulb primer isn't necessary but I got a great deal after they screwd up my order they gave me the one with the bulb for same price (make sure they send you a Diesel element they sent me 2 gas elements, both G&D use same filter head), also you can add heater and water detection but that adds cost.
Do a google search for Racor or Parker to get specifics & options available, also a tech support number for questions, don't sell direct to private individuals, but Kennedy & lubespecialist usually stock them.
