Hello all,
I just got a 82 Blazer with a 6.2. Its has 93k on the odometer. It looks to have sat for a while, and the fellow I got it from got it going, and I got it from him. It seems to run well, trans shifts well, a/c works as well as the 4WD. Some things are rigged, the last owner replaced the fuel lines with rubber ones from the tank up, and by-passed the primary fuel filter. The battery cables are a mess, and some other minor things.
I do have some questions:

The CDR valve looks old, I soaked it in diesel and rinsed it out. Will that suffice or should it be replaced.

The F-shaped grommet on the bottom of the CDR valve that connects to two pipes is bad. Is this a dealer part or does NAPA carry this.

What temp thermostat do these engines like? Is a particular brand better?

I saw elsewhere on the forum about timing chains and harmonic balancers. Should these be something for me to replace before I drive it much?

I plan to set it up for WVO, and currently have a heat exchanger I plan to use on it. Should this go before the filter, or between the filter and IP?

Who carries parts for this model Blazer, such as interior light cover, weatherstrip for back glass, sun visors ect..

Will replacing the mufflers with flowmasters or something similar net any noticable power or mileage gains?

Thanks in advance and any other suggestions would be welcomed.

Welcome and congratulations on the new truck... :)

In my opinion flushing out the CDR valve is fine, should be all set. I am guessing you will need to go to a dealer or junkyard for the CDR fitting.

I am running a 190 degree thermostat. I've used a lot of different brands and temperatures of thermostat, some guys say it makes a difference, in my opinion it doesn't much matter as long as it is about 180 degrees or better.

I wouldn't worry about the timing chain or balancer too much. I would inspect the balancer and if the rubber looks like it is falling apart then yes, replace it, but otherwise you're fine.

WVO has been a frequent topic of discussion, and almost everybody has a slightly different method. I prefer a heater both before and after the filter, but keep in mind that there are also many other modifications you will probably end up doing to your fuel system, so you may not end up with the same filter system either.

LMC Truck has parts for those, as does Classic Industries although I have never purchased parts from either company. There are several other places that carry parts as well. In my opinion, however, nothing beats a good junkyard... :D

Thanks for the input, I will give the balancer a good going over. I have another question or two:

The EGR valve is under the air filter, but is not hooked up. Do these engines run better with it hooked up? Would a non egr intake be better?

Thanks again

The EGR is only there for emissions purposes, and is only active at idle. You probably won't be able to tell the difference with the EGR disconnected.

A non-EGR intake is a little better in my opinion, but it doesn't make a huge difference. It can help in some cases because many times the EGR valves leak when the engine is loaded up and this can reduce performance.

If you want contact me in a few months
I am putting in a 6.2 right now in a k5 and I am rebuilding it.
Then we will run WVO in a couple months. I've already ordered my preheaters etc.
I am using a single tank setup and new lines I came up with.
whole new setup....
