I have decided to install a MBRP 4" exhaust. I notice they make an optional downpipe. What are the pros and cons on it? Later! Frank

Frank, its just the head pipe, from the vclamp to the flange.

The downpipe from mbrp is bigger diameter than the stock lb7 downpipe.

Pros: louder turbo, louder exhaust, quicker spool time, snappier response, somewhat better mileage

Cons: illegal as you are tampering/modifying emessions items, stinks alot worse than normal diesel combustion, somewhat more prone to getting a ticket, wont pass any type of inspection, warranty may somewhat be voided.

My opinion, its worth doing it, just save that cat for any later inspections or dealer issues.

cid the 2002 d-max trucks don't come with a cat. GM did not start putting them on until 2003 model year, as long as my sources are correct. Thus you are replacing a smaller headpipe with a larger one. My d-max was that way if it helps?

Ah, did not know that, thanks for the information.

I think I should rephrase. Is the down pipe worth the added expense? Later! Frank

Frank Blum,

10% approx EGT drop difference, slight spool up difference. For most folks it's worth it especially if you're getting or already have a performance module or programmer which I see you have. It's a difference but it isn't going to knock you in the back seat like the Edge did on your truck.

Call us if you have any questions etc.

I have the MBRP 4" exhaust. Down pipe wasn't available at the time of install.

Seems like a waste to get a bigger exhaust, only to have it limited by the down pipe, for a restriction. I plan on adding the bigger down pipe, for the sake of lower exhaust temperatures. Not sure what one is worth ($$) but might be a tight fit.

Thanks guys. I will buy the pipe with the rest of the system. Later! Frank
