The elevated idle only works when the outside temp. is below 32F and the engine is below operating temp.

According to the Duramax supplement that should have been with the owner's manual when you bought the truck, elevated idle increases the idle speed and restricts the exhaust to bring up the temperature of the engine faster to get the heater going and have the engine at operating temperature. Unless you plan on drag racing with a cold engine, turning it off probably won't do much good.

Hello there

This truck is in FL. So at this point it does not matter? If the Trucks where up north then it Should be on i guess. I'm ordering 12 rigs for my north shop. Then we should keep it on when its cold?

When I was stopped on the interstate on pure ice in Oklahoma, it was about 20 degrees out. We were stopped (not moving at all) for about 2 hours. Just idleing there, the engine temp dropped below the certain level (I think it is 160ish) and the elevated idle kicked it and warmed the engine back up to 180-200. I was glad to have that feature then...

Living in NW Ohio this year the elevated idel feature has been GREAT. Warms the truck much faster and helps to keep it warm when stopped. If it is left on even in sunny and warm Florida it won't kick in over 32 degrees;) (blue because he froze his a** off up here)

Unless you travel to a cold climate keep it off!

i would say, leave it on and forget about it. it will not hurt anything. it will only come on when it needs to.

Smartfix, One more thing to add. It will take a few seconds to come on even when turned on and the temp. in the right range. If you touch the accelerator while it is at high idle, it will go the standard idle. Don't worry about using it if it comes on, it dose'nt run as high of rpm as it might sound.
