I have a 06 lbz, there is a noise comming from the steering when i drive at low speeds. It sounds like its coming from under the dashboard. when i turn the steering wheel it makes tapping noises, only at low speeds under 15 mph. if i brake and turn it makes the tapping noises. its driving me insane. i had both struts replaced and the noise continues.

Same here buddy I'm not sure what it is myself but theres a company that offera a fix for that tappin your hearing it's in the steering column i can't remeber the name but i think it has something to do with the u-joint or either the column rubbing thr fire wall not sure thought

Could be the intermediate shaft or there is a bearing just above the u joint that could go bad.

I have an 05 with 88K I just bought and every time I go over a bump or uneven road a rattle or clanking noise comes from the dashboard. The dealer replaced the intermediate shaft but the noise stayed. I found that if I put my foot on the steering shaft by the u joint the noise stopped. Further checking revealed the shaft was "loose" above the u joint and rattled in the steering column. I showed this to the dealer mechanic and the dealer mechanic looked at the exploded view and found a bearing in the lower steering shaft that could be the problem.

I will find out this week if this fixes the problem.

Edit: Sc8per beat me to it.

Sounds like the intermediate steering shaft. They all do it, the fix at first was the dealer regreased it, then they replaced the shaft with a different style. I had mine regreased about 10,000 miles ago and it's started doin it again. I should take it back to the dealer but it's like an hour away and it's just a hassle. Anyway do a search and you'll find out all you want or don't want to know.

Just a note.
Look under your dash and locate where the steering shaft comes through the fire wall. You should see the U joint the connects the two shafts. There is a plastic ring about 1.5-2" diam. This is a bearing. Grab the shaft above the U joint and see if it is loose in the bearing. If so this could be the source of your noise. My dealer has never replaced one before and had not diagnosed this in the past. So this could get overlooked by the mechanic if they go for only the intermediate shaft.
