: Problems with Astrostart
HeavyD 01-30-2005, 05:00 PM Hi All,
Was wondering if someone could help me out. I had an Astrostart 2205 installed a few weeks ago and every once in a while, ever since getting the remote start, I get a 'Service 4WD' message on the DIC. I have never had that message before getting the Astrostart. When I first had the starter installed it would come up with the 'Service 4WD' message every time I started the truck with the remote. It has never come up when starting with the key. I went back the installer and he reprogrammed something to do with an accessory delay??? After that, I did not have the message coming up when starting with the remote or the key. About a week ago the message came up when remote starting. I was not able to reproduce the message when starting with the remote or the key. Today the message came up again when I remote started the truck this morning. I am going to give the installer a call tomorrow, but was just wondering if anyone here has expierenced this problem before. Thanks.
Greg

HeavyD, where are you at in Michigan?

ob_1jr 01-30-2005, 06:20 PM I have heard that some installers use one of the wires to your 4WD buttons. This could cause it. Some installers do stupid stuff like that. I am no expert, but that would be something you can look at and verify before taking it in. If they did to that, I would demand that they use another source for power.
Max Power 01-30-2005, 07:11 PM Sounds like maybe one of the igntion wires is not being powered up due to a bad connection or perhaps it just wasn't hooked up at all.
If you installer can not help you let me know and I can probably walk you through a few tests.
HeavyD 01-30-2005, 09:06 PM TheBac - I am in southeast MI nearly halfway between Detroit and Port Huron. I got the Astrostart installed in Charlotte, SW of Lansing.
Max Power - Thanks for offer to help, I may take you up on it. I will give the installer a call tomorrow, but I will not be able to get over there until next weekend. Is there anything obvious I could check in the meantime? (Without tearing the dash apart) One of the most frustrating parts of this problem is that it is inconsistent, sometimes it does it, sometimes it does not.
Thanks for your replies.

Max Power 01-30-2005, 11:52 PM What you could try is pressing start on the astro start with the key in the igntion. While it is cranking, turn they key to the on position. If everything is normal when you do that (and not when you start with just the remote start) then you know it is an ignition wire issue.
HD-Nate 01-31-2005, 05:15 PM OR…..could it just be a coincidence, the “Service 4WD” is a common known problem on your year of truck. I know, because mine had this problem before I installed the Astro Start. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
Max Power 01-31-2005, 05:34 PM There is always that possibility as well.
JRKRACE 01-31-2005, 05:44 PM I had the Service 4WD issue on my 2002. It turned out to be the switch. When the Service light came on, the indicator lights on the switch itself would do some funky things. When the light cane on, I pressed the switch edges, not the buttons, and found out that the indicator lights(2WD,4WD,etc) would come on and off. Turned out to be a cracked circuit board in the switch.Had it replaced and no problems after that..
HeavyD 01-31-2005, 05:48 PM I won't disregard the possibility of the 4WD fault being true, it just seems very odd that I have only seen this message right after the starter was put in. I am going to see the installer this weekend. Hopefully everything get straightened out. Thanks for the replies.
Max Power - I will give that test a shot. I will let you know if I come up with anything. Thanks.

HeavyD 02-07-2005, 08:50 PM Just to follow up, looks like it was a programming problem. I am not sure about the specifics, but it seems that a couple of the settings were wrong. In any case, it seems fine now. The installer was upset that I had to come back and asked me to follow up with him in a week or so to make sure everything is ok. Despite the problem, I was very happy with the service and would purchase from him again. Thanks for the replies.
