Is it a good idea to drain the water in your fuel filter at least once a month? Can you drain it without taking part of the wheel well cover off. Thanks

I don't worry about it until I see a light. On occasion, if I remember, I'll drain it when I change the oil. You can reach in from the top and get to the drain, no need to pull the liner out. :)

I just recently changed my OEM fuel filter and 2 micron CAT filters. The OEM had a little over 10K, and the CAT had 13500. I poured the left over fuel from each filter into separate clear 2 liter soda bottles. I let it sit for a couple of days, to see if I had any water in the fuel filters. I was amazed to see that I had no separation of fuel and water. I do run fuel additive in every tank. The filters look good after that mileage also!

I would not be concerned with water in the fuel unless the sensor goes off. Then you can place a small soda bottle under the drain valve and see if you get any water. I have yet to find any.

I haven't had any problem with water in the filter either, but maybe all the rain we had lately, might change some things...

If you buy from a reputable, high volume supplier you shouldnt have to worry about draining it. It cant hurt to, but your filter should need changing before it becomes filled w/water, if your getting good fuel
