Got bored today at work so I decided to build some spring clamps to help my wheelhop. I use my truck on the farm alot and whenever you hammer it with a loaded wagon or in reverse it bounces me out of my seat. I was amazed at how well this little mod improved traction and eliminated all wheelhop. Feels cool at stoplights too! Got some pictures of them installed.

How does this eliminate wheel hop? And what are the negative effects of clamping your springs for street use?

That could be a great alternative to expensive traction bars! Any negative effects???

The spring clamps work by useing the lower overload spring kinda like a track bar. Normally there is about a 1/2 inch gap before the overload contacts the main spring bundle. When you gas it, this rotates the axle up until the overload contacts the bundle, storing the energy until the wheel slips when it releases the energy forcing the axle back down increasing traction and starting the whole mess again. (Wheel Hop). By clamping the spring it not only eliminates the gap but it stiffens the front of the spring set by turning two sets of "soft" springs into one stiffer one. I have noticed slightly stiffer ride and like i said it feels cool at stoplights because the rear doesn't unload. I am going to make some different shims to place between the springs to see what difference it makes. These where fairly easy to make, i supose i may have a few extra sets if only i could locate some H2 wheels??;)
