I have been running the same Billet Grill in my 2004.5, the temp is fine I watched the before and after with no noticeable change. Even pulling the boat "6500 lbs" across the desert with 112 degrees showing on the mirror the engine and trans both stated in the normal range.

I took my grill off last summer for that reason, my truck still runs hot pulling a heavy load but with the grill it would run real hot and the fan was on all the time.I am waiting for it to get hot again to see what happens

Just installed mine so I can't say for certain but I did alot of research and found some inserts to be more air restrictive then others. I put on the mesh screen because it has very little restriction on air moving through and the holes are small enough to keep the bugs from getting through.

There was quite a bit of discussion about this in the LLY overheating thread that has been going on for several months. Those that tow heavy at higher altitudes appear more likely to experience the overheating problems. I have an insert on my truck. I clipped out most of the OEM grille with metal shears to minimize the obstruction of air across the stack. Seems to have helped a lot.

The grille inserts really do set these trucks apart from their brethren. If you are going to tow heavy would recommend clipping most of the old one out. Later. JJ :)

Well guys, All that ive heard here in Southern California is the LLY engines do run hotter than the LB7. I was told to take the radiator and water pump out of the lly and replace it with LB7 radiator and water pump. When I pull a grade of 7% with a 10000 lb trailer my pickup ran up to 215, this is lly. My service truck is a C4500 weighing 17000 lbs has never even hit 190 a day in its life and takes twice aslong to warm up. Sure the radiator in this 4500 may be bigger than the pickup version, but Ive been told by many to change my lly parts for lb7. I DONT THINK ITS YOUR GRILLES GUYS IM RUNNING BILLET GRILLES WITH CLOSE SPACING IN BOTH TRUCKS.
