: 95 6.5 blows white smoke won't idle
xcablb7 03-20-2008, 04:48 PM i've got a 95 3500 hd at the shop, it came in with a no start, replaced the ip, now if i held it to the floor it would start but it won't idle you have to keep your foot on the throttle. replaced pump again, same thing, the whole time it is blowing a ton of white smoke and you can smell raw fuel at the tailpipe, replaced the pcm it was fine for about 15 mins, smoke started to clear now back to the same again. new pump came with new pmd, lift pump is working,
knkreb 03-20-2008, 09:07 PM Head gaskets, etc, okay? Check out diagnostic checklist in signature below and top of forum sticky.
Not every single problem is an injection pump, in fact it's not really all that often on here, once you know what you are looking for.
xcablb7 03-21-2008, 02:14 PM Head gaskets are ok. actual inj timing always reads 25.5 does not change no matter what you do with the pump. can't set tdc offset.
CanadianRigger 03-21-2008, 02:22 PM Sounds like timing to me, since the ECM was changed and ran fine for 15 min's, until it warmed up and re-set TDCO.
jifaire 03-21-2008, 02:27 PM ^^What he said!
TDCO won't set until truck hits 170*F
xcablb7 03-21-2008, 06:23 PM if i move the pump from one side all the way to the other it doesn't change the actual timing at all it stays at 25.5 and the truck won't run long enough to get to 170, shouldn't the actual change if i move the pump ?
The 95 won't relearn TDCOffset. Adjust the pump with the FOS in a vertical position. You need a bi-directional scan tool to do a TDC learn, adjust to get 3.5* act.. Then do a TDCOset. I may be wrong but when mine set code 88 it never relearned TDCOffset. Leo

After rereading the whole thread you probably know all this and have tried it already. Leo
CanadianRigger 03-22-2008, 02:16 AM Throw in the ecm that worked for 15 min's, see what tdco said at that time, move the pump. Wait for temps to hit 170F+, wait for it to command tdco and start running crappy, move the pump accordingly + or - according to what the tdco commanded, once its within -2.20 to +2.20 install the original ECM, problem solved.
Give you $50 for it...............

if it was mine sure take this pile

don't think putting that ecm will help i can get it to run now the same way with both ecms
xcablb7 03-24-2008, 03:18 PM a friend gave me another injection pump and a computer to try n see if i could set tdco same thing will not move off 25.5 smokes the shop out in 2 minutes and now has cyl power balance codes 3,4,6,7
xcablb7 03-26-2008, 11:24 AM i'm going to pull the frt of the motor apart and ck the timing chain and make sure it didn't jump. i think i've tried everything else
xcablb7 03-27-2008, 03:56 PM took the front covers off today found the cam gear key was sheared off at the injection pump gear.
camfire87 07-16-2008, 11:48 PM I have an 86 scottsdale with the same problem, and seeing as it doesn't even have a computer running the show, I figured it would have to be something mechanical. I tried adjust the IP timing and that didn't do anything, and so my next step I guess is to tear the timing cover off and see what lurks underneath...
