Im deciding between BFG allterrain 315/70 R17 or Toyo A/T 285/75 R17. They will be on a NBS with 2008 H2s. Your thoughts would be appreciated

Why the difference in sizes?

Anyways, I would go with the BFGs. I had a set of 315 75/16s and got a good 70,000 miles on them. They're a little noisier and need to be rotated a little more often then the Toyos, but from what I've seen on my current set of tires, I'm not going to get anywhere near 70k. I'll be lucky to get 40k. The only thing I can think is that Toyo's compound is way too soft for how heavy these trucks are.:(

As far as traction, I like the Toyos better for highway and the BFGs for off road. The Toyos don't do that great in mud, but handle corners on pavement better than the BFGs, probably because of the softer compound.

The BFG AT is a proven tire. Much more proven than any other AT on the market. The Toyo has definitely gained a good reputation in recent years. I don't think you could go wrong with either. I personally will always lean towards BFG. There has been way too many people getting 60k or more out of them.

BFG's. And if you watch E-bay you can get a SMOKING deal on brand new take offs from H2's.

I just threw on a set of these this winter. It was a pretty rough winter snow wise here so I can say they were tested quite frequently.

My opinion:
In snow they are not what they were cracked up to be. It seems in wet snow they don't clear out fast enough and just spin..? In the rain we have had (wet pavement) they seem to have decent traction. Quite a bit of vibration while pulling compared to the stockers.

Tread wear seems to be going pretty decent do far.

I got a pretty good price on 4 - 265's, but I don't think i will be purchasing another set when these are gone.

I put a set of 285/70R17 Toyo A/T's on my truck last week. Ride nice and quiet on the highway. I'm pleased with them so far. It just snowed again here last night. So we'll see how they handle that.

I have the 315/70/17's on h2 chromes. This is the second set of BFG's that I have had on this truck. I got 49K on the first set and they still had a little ways to go. Like any other tire you need to rotate correctly and check air.
I vote for the BFG's .
For the money that these tires cost I have yet to hear or see another tire getting the mileage on these trucks that the BFGs get.
Just my .02....

My buddy had a set of Toyos...they sucked. They were wearing quickly for the few miles they had on them and they wouldn't balance right...the tire place called Toyo and they wouldn't do a dang thing about it. Bad customer service too IMO.

He's running Mickey Thompson ATZs now and loves them.

ive run both and they are both excellent tires, the toyos are more of a street tire and are not nearly as good in mud and snow as the BFG's but they are quieter and handle a little better on the street. as far as wear goes, they both wear like iron, my dad has a set of toyos on his full size van which with a wheelchair lift and high top for my brother wieghs as much as my truck and hes probably got close to 20k miles on them and they still look brand new.

I went with the Toyos myself and after 2K miles I'm very pleased with them. The tires still look new and they're quiet on the road and they did just fine at the ranch.

I've had terrible luck with the Toyo's, I rotate every 5,000 and I don't drive like a crazy person, I take off easy and avoid spinning the rears. The problem I've run into is the rear tires wear in the center faster then I can rotate them. I run the pressure low in the rears unless I am carrying a load in the rear, I did the same to the stock tires and they wore great, actually they reside on my '73 Chevy Camper Special. However I've already replaced two of the Toyos as I had a damaged tire and the new ones are already in less then 5000 miles have started showing wear in the centers. I will never buy another set of Toyos is I can avoid it, I hated buying just two but I was short on money if I could have I would have purchased 4 different tires.

Good luck with your Toyos
