While wasting some time, I was looking at the CXT on the international site. Thinking about that new fifth wheel I might buy some day. Just saw the specs on the engine (a Cat) 220 hp and 540 ft-lbs of torque. Don't get it - this thing weight 7 tons, and that engine has less hp and torque than my LB7 (310, and 590). What am I missing here?

No CAT...

DT466

The International CXT features the legendary International ® DT 466 diesel engine with a horsepower rating of 220 hp and 540 lb. ft. of torque capable of hauling or towing pretty much anything you can put into or behind it. Other horsepower ratings are also available. With an electronically controlled turbocharger and four valves per cylinder, the engine delivers responsiveness, acceleration, outstanding fuel efficiency, extended serviceability and long-term durability. Among businesses for whom the International CXT is ideal: construction, lawn care businesses, lawn and garden stores, brick or stone contractors, home builders, carpenters, landscape designers, roofers, home improvement companies, auto body repair or custom paint shops, commercial boating businesses and boat racers

Isn't the 466 the same as the Powerstroke 6.0?

Perhaps power is just an ECM away?

The 6L has 364 cubes or something to tha effect. The 466 is 7.8L I believe.

They can tune them for much more power, but Im guessing that the low power levels are made for longevity in mind.

From what Ive heard, a 466 will pull better than any of the big 3 engines. Power accessible at much lower rpms.

I think you also need to think about the trans. and rearend. We have grain trucks with the 466, that will pull a helluva lot more than any pickup, because of low gearing. I would guess that the CXT would be geared fairly low, or at least lower than a pickup with 3.73 or 4.10's.

The IH DT466 is a straight six and is a true med duty diesel. One you will never see in a pickup truck.

Hoot,

The DT466 is also in class 8 trucks, anything above 33k GVW... I beleive in stock form it will go up to 275hp the next jump is the DT530 that goes to about 340hp

The weight of the DT466 is something like 1400 or 1500 lbs dry... you will never see it in a pickup...

IT is a very good motor...

I had a 4900 with a DT466... It had no problem pulling 20,000 on the bed of the truck... The CXT has a 12,000 payload.. I don't think it should be a big issue...
