I would like to know how many are using the expensive synthetics vs how many are using regular rotella 15w-40. And how often the oil and filter are changed with each? I will be towing a 12,000 lb load about half the time with my new 2008 LMM. geh7552 03-20-2008, 09:53 AM Changed mine at 7500 miles and put in Amsoil syn with a Amsoil EA 52 filter. I send out a sample to Blackstone for testing. Results came back with high levels of silica which according to Blackstone isn't unusual for a new motor due to left over casting materials. I picked Amsoil because of the testing results as compared to other oils. I don't go by sales hype... Can't for the life of me remember where that was and how many trucks it might have affected. That post is somewhere around here? The only oil poll I could find was asking about brand... I just started another one Synth or dino jedmax 03-22-2008, 03:05 AM Was using Rotella 15W40 til last year (bought it used a 2 years ago). Now Mobil 1 Delvac 5W40. No noticeable difference in mileage but feel that that synthetic will give more protection at lower temps up here (we hit -40* a few times this winter). Synthetic is more expensive but should hopefully provide some longevity to my truck. I use the DIC (fairly accurate IMO) and change at around 20% or so. | ||
