Can anyone on here provide the factory tow ratings for a 2500HD with the 6.0L with 3.73s and then with 4.11's?
Thanks

in 2003 your could only get 4.10's

my 2003 CCLB 4x4 is 9900 lbs. I think the shorter versions and 2wds might be a little more

Check out the Chevy website. I have been looking at new trucks and the tow capacity for the 3.73 is 10,000 and the 4.10 is 12,500 if I remember right. These numbers are for the 2008 models.

Depends on cab as well as 4WD or 2WD.

BTW, a graph with the tow ratings should be in your owners manual.

My 2001 has 4.10 gears, seems to have plenty of power

IF your looking for a gas pickup to tow with,I'd seriously take a look at a dodge hemi. sorry to get off subject, but it never hurts to try them all.

Those are likely higher than the earlier 6.0's since they are using the 6L90E instead of the 4L80E. Regardless you are looking at 10,000# with the 4L80 and 4.10's.

Brakes usually have a big impact on tow ratings too-do the new ones have different brakes-I am sure they do.

Thats odd,I didnt think they played much of a role on tow ratings.I thought they were more of an effect on the GVWR of the truck. If you look at the trucks thru the years, the biggest affect on tow ratings is with what is under the hood, and what axle ratio you have.
The trailer is required to stop itself, with its own brakes, the truck needs to carry its tongue weight, control it,and pull it with a margin of safety and pull it without overloading the engine/trans or cooling system.

Just a few examples my uncles old truck 1996 GMC K2500HD 6.5 liter turbo diesel 3.73 gearing 6000lb tow rating. Fried had identical truck, but with 454,and 4.10's.It had an 11,000 lb tow rating. Same brakes, same GVWR (8600),same tires.

My buddys truck,2001 chevy 2500HD 6.0/4.10 has 9800lb tow rating,my truck 2001 GMC 2500HD 8.1,allison 3.73 has 13,300 lb tow rating. Same brakes,same tires,same GVWR (9200).

The differences are powertrain and gearing. On many 1500 series trucks the tow rating can change by as much as 2-3000lbs with just an axle ratio change from 3.42 to 4.10 and no other changes. There is a big difference between a 5000 lb rating and an 8000lb.

Maybe I was thinking payload, not towing..

I agree 100%. Which makes me wonder why the new suburban w/ the 6.0 and 6 speed auto is rated to tow less then the previous gen suburban. I honist think 4.10 it would be ok to tow 10 or 12K lbs.

Does the new Sub have a 4.10 option? All the Escalades and Denalis with only get a 3.42 gear. No optional gears that I am aware of.

You can always change the gearing to meet your needs, as well. I changed the gearing on my old F-250 from 3.73 to 4.10. It cost me about $1,200, but it added another 2,500 lbs of tow capacity and the truck pulled and drove great!

3/4 ton Suburban

So the new 3/4 Sub with the 6.0L, 6spd auto and 4.10's has less towing capacity than the previous model? I didn't realize that and it doesn't make any sense the GM would reduce the tow rating.

No you can only get 3.73s in the suburban, if it had 4.10s i'm sure they would rerate it similar to the CCSB w/ 4.10s

I know that you can get the new Tahoe with 4.10s

I think the subs only get a 4l85 and not the 6 speed.
