i have a crimestopper on my and love it. you also have to buy a passlock bypass and a door lock module. it isnt something i would reccomend for someone with out expereince. i use to install these for a dealership and it takes a little know how.

i have the viper as well. Great product... especially the range. If you can get one with the 2 way feature; You will always know if the doors are locked.

I recommend Astrostart. I installed the 2 way system myself with the help of Max Power...Excellent unit and even better service from Max Power.....He should chime in any post now...

I would like a system that can tie in with the stock Gm one. As long as I have a schematic I can install it, or have the sense enough to either ask for help or get the qualified to do it.
Thanks Guys;)

The Astro Start from Max Power. You can't go wrong and it's relitively simple to install. I would do it again but only get the two way.

I had a Clifford Avantguard 4 alarm installed in my truck. Had the remote start installed with the diesel warm up feature. Also had one touch power windows installed on the front 2 windows. The alarm also allows me to stop somewhere, leave the engine running, turn the alarm on, and come back out without having to start the engine up again. I had this alarm on my last truck with the same features and love it. One warning though, it's a bit expensive because it is labor intensive to install.

Like elias and juke6.6, I too have the Viper with 2-way. Works great! Would highly recommend it.

I would also suggest an Astrostart. Mine isn't up and working yet because I'm waiting on a module from Tony (MaxPower) but I do have the remote start all wired up and it was fairly easy with the directions and pics from Tony.

I have the Clifford Matrix 3.5 with front window controls. Clifford makes a G5 which has some neat features. Just costs more $$. If you are familiar with the wiring of your truck it will probably take 8 hours or more.

Astrostart 2-way from MaxPower. Installation was straight forward. Passlock module on the newer trucks is simple. One module does the passlock bypass and door locks all by talking on the databus.

If you are comfortable and technically competent to install the components and will be the primary driver of the vehicle it sounds like Astrostart is a great system. However, if you are not the above and the wife or significant other drives the truck, especially out-of-town trips, you might consider a brand that a national distributor carries and can service. Personal experience, long story, suffice to say wife was 800 miles away with a dead truck. :(

There is, and never will be, a 100% fail proof system, sh_t happens! I went with the Code Alarm system made by DEI and sold by Circuit City. I figure there are enough CC stores out there that the odds are she could get help in an emergency.

It has all the features mentioned above, cost around $500 installed. My .02 cents worth. JJ :)

JJ, If you use a data bypass, it is 100% foolproof. There is no way the remote start can leave your truck stranded. I can and have proved this time and time again.

Do any of these work with the OEM remote? I was at the dealer the other day and there was a guy installing one that with three pushes of the unlock button the truck started!! That is what I want, and it was $130.

max camper, for the most part the factory remote doesn't have enough range to make it practical. It is an option and if it works for you that is great.

I personally would stay away from cheaper remote starts. There are big differences between the cheaper universal stuff and the higher end remote starts. I won't go into the technical aspects but anyone who has used/installed higher end equipment can appreciate the differences. You are free to choose what ever you like, I am just offering my opinions from over 10+ years of expereince.

Max power,

I have no problem spending a little more to get a good product, in fact I preffer to, however, I like the idea of keeping the OEM remote as range is not an issue. Do you know of a good quality unit that utilizes the OEM remote?

Thanks, Max

I personally have the Python 2way remote start unit installed in my LLY and love it. However, when they hooked it up they tied it in to the stock alarm and as Max Power states, it conflicts every now and then.. I recommend if you go with an aftermarket unit, you bypass the stock alarm. Yeah, you won't get all the same features, BUT you wont get the blinking "lock" on your console that won't allow your 45k truck to start either! Trust me it is embarrasing!

I have a question...

I am planning on getting an 05 LLY within the next few weeks.

I want to get a remote start that I can have it start up at like 2:30pm, before I get out of school, so I can leave right away when schools out. However, I want to leave the doors locked until I press the button once im closer to the truck.

Are all remote starts like that? or once it starts up does it automatically unlock the truck?

Also, is it hard to program the times for it to start up?

Thanks again guys!

Thanks, MaxNo sorry I don't know if any good quality systems that utilize the factory remote. I know you think range is not a problem but I guarantee once you have it you will find so many places that the factory remote won't work that you will regret not going the other way.

The new remotes are not much bigger then the OEM keyless remotes and they replace all the functions of the OEM remotes and more. You will also have the added bonus of being able to lock your doors from 2000+feet as well as get pages from the truck so you can see if it is locked, running etc.

There are no disadvantages that I can see to going to an aftermarket remote. I would be interseted to see why you would prefer the OEM remote.

Trust me it is embarrasing!I hate to hear stuff like this because it gives people the impression that remote starts aren't going to work properly with the stock system.

I assure you that done properly there are no conflicts. The system I install/sell arms and disarms the factory alarm system the exact same way the OEM keyless entry remote does. I HIGHLY recommend to NOT disable the OEM security system. With a properly installed data bypass it will NEVER NEVER NEVER leave you stranded. If you are having problems with that you should be taking it back to your remote start installer and ask them for DATA door lock/passlock bypass such as the GMDLBP. There is no need to have to 'put up' with anything like that.

I use my remote start to start my truck, arm and disarm my OEM and aftermarket alarm 5 times per day and there is NEVER a glitch. Not once. This is 2005 and electronics have come a long way. It should work exactly how you expect it to. Do not put up with sub standard install or product because your installer was trying to save a few bucks by using a resistance passlock bypass instead of a data bypass.

Yes you can add a timer to a remote start that works like an alarm clock. You can set it for multiple schedules to start up at 2:30 and 7:00 or whatever you like. You can also use your remote to start it if you are within range.

Astro start makes such a timer www.astroflex.com (http://www.astroflex.com) and I am sure other companies do as well.

It will leave your doors locked until you unlock them with your keyless entry or remote start remote.

It is easy to program. There is no reason for the door locks to unlock the doors before it starts on any remote starter system.

Called Tony, Max Power, going with the "Gucci" 2205 with the lock/passlock. Sounds like the stuff! Switch over the stock alarm to a new Remote unit that has the added range as well as all the bells & whistles. Keeps the doors locked at start up & lets you know your vehicle is running. System range of 2000' that's over 6 football fields. Works for me!:cool2: Thanks, Tony, Max power!

Max Power,

Do they(aftermarket remotes)recognize the different drivers for all the DIC, HVAC and radio settings like the OEM remotes? Assuming I install myself where do I buy and whah should I expect to pay for one like you are refering to.
Thanks, Max camper
