: Dealership Service a bit pricy
Damn Yankee 03-19-2008, 06:36 PM Usually do my own service, but recently moved to Florida and have twins coming in a few weeks, so took the truck a Florida dealer:
Oil Change $89.95
Fuel Filter $99.95
Tranny Filter $89.58
Rear Diff Service $139.95
Front Diff Service $139.95
Front end Alignment $89.95 (2 turms in the torsion bars after getting 265s)
Injector cleaning service $189.95
Two questions for everyone.
Does this seem in reason (seemed pricy 2 me)?
What exactly is the injector cleaning service and did I get robbed?
That is really high. I don't know what injector cleaning is but for 189.95 I bet you they don't remove them. Prob just an additive they put in your tank.
Chromer 03-19-2008, 07:07 PM Usually do my own service, but recently moved to Florida and have twins coming in a few weeks, so took the truck a Florida dealer:
Oil Change $89.95
For a synthetic change thats ok, seems high if its dino oil
Fuel Filter $99.95
Thats the $42 list price on filter and prolly about 4 tenths labor. A lot of money, but not a gouge
Tranny Filter $89.58
I'm assuming external filter... This is kind of outrageous - The filters are 9 bucks and when truck is already on lift it is a 2 minute job, tops
Rear Diff Service $139.95
Again, truck on lift, this is a rip. Same with front diff. These 2 jobs entail unscrewing a total of 4 plugs to drain & fill both diffs. Way overpriced
Front Diff Service $139.95
See above
Front end Alignment $89.95 (2 turms in the torsion bars after getting 265s)
This is a fair price, no complaints here
Injector cleaning service $189.95
Pardon my stupidity, but I didn't even know this could be done on a diesel... Anyone?

All in all, those prices are way higher than I would pay, except for the alignment. As far as the fuel filter, if ya gotta pay for someone to do it, that's not an unreasonable price, given what GM charges for the filter.
Bammer 03-19-2008, 09:08 PM I understand the situation but man-o-man!!!
CtChevy427 03-19-2008, 09:13 PM Hence the word stealership. Do as much as possible you will save a ton of money and you know it will be done correctly.
Damn Yankee 03-19-2008, 11:06 PM Thanks for the responses............... Proved what I was thinking was correct. Still wondering about the injector cleaning serive, first I heard that
robs67camaro 03-19-2008, 11:21 PM Not that I agree with it but that is the going rate around here. Normal labor rate for any shop (dealer or independant) is $100 per hr. Add the GM price for parts and synthitic fluid and thats the total. I would never go to an independant and only trust one GM dealer out of 7 within 20 miles.
I think the injector flush is only for gas engines....I could be wrong...have to check on that.
phazar 03-20-2008, 12:03 AM I Think Its Worth The Extra Few Dollars At The Dealer, At Least My Dealer, When They Perform An Oil Service They Check And Top Up All Fluids, Cover Seats With Plastic So No Mess And Have Actually Found Leaking Rear Axle Seals And Replaced Them On Warranty Before I Went Back To Pick Up The Truck.
Small Service Stations Wont Do This. Also, If Something Goes Wrong After The Service That Is Service Related, Dealer Haseverything On Record. Just My 02

A good deal is nothing more than a state of mind... If you feel that you pay a fair price at your dealer - then you do!
talltail 03-20-2008, 02:40 AM One thing that I think is that if you are under warranty it's a good idea to have them do the oil change. they can find many things that can be fixed for only the HIGH price of the service, but for most the other stuff I do myself.
Damn Yankee 03-20-2008, 06:59 PM I'm still really curious about this injector cleaning serice, as I specifically asked regarding gas vs. diesel. They said if the injectors were carboned up, fuel mileage would suffer. Sounded strange to me !
hambone02 03-20-2008, 08:49 PM Try to get all your filters in the after market. I have saved a lot by bringing my own. Told dealer I had to because Allison filter is 1/3 the price at Allison dealer and oil filters are 1/2 the price at Auto Zone. You gotta do what ya gotta do!

I am anxious to hear someone weigh in on this... 20 years in the service biz and I never heard of a diesel fuel injector cleaning service...
Anyone???
BudTX 03-20-2008, 09:16 PM I have heard of dealerships that sell a diesel injector cleaner. IIRC, it was a bottled product under the GM label that sounded a lot like Stanadyne, Power Service, Primrose and the like.

Good lord, if that's all it was for $189.00, that's the worst price of the lot
The dealer provide any KY with that. No I can't say alot I have let the dealer change a fuel filter once or twice when I didn't have time to fool with it. They can be real high dollar and sometimes they try to sell you a special service.

Why not do yourself and us a favor? Call the service advisor at this dealer and ask him to give you a detailed explanation of the "injector cleaning service". I think it's a bottle of $10 (or whatever) additive plus some really outrageous labor to pour it into the tank, fire it up and beat the piss out of it around the block. They owe that one back to you.
Oh, and get a different dealer next time.
You really don't want to get hosed like that again...
You can get all your oem filters from Merchant Automotive, so you will save money that way. And remember that when you visit a dealer, you pay for the salary of all the people that work inside the dealership, and also the owner of the place...
thejdman04 03-22-2008, 10:33 PM You can hook up a machine (can thats pressurized w/air) and has injector cleaner in it up to the fuel rail to clean the injectors. It does help, shoudlnt be that much but the cleaner is expensive
Damn Yankee 03-24-2008, 01:28 PM JDMAN had it right, they hook it up to thier machine and clean them. The only false hood I found was they did not inspect them like they said they would, but cleaned them w/o inspection.

Well, as long as they hooked the fuel system up to a machine, at least the job was not a bush. And, there's no real way to "inspect" the injectors. That's basically dealer-speak for "opened the hood"
Still, a buck ninety for that service seems WAY high, but that's just me...

I dont buy it, that can is going to have a hard time overcoming the 4800 or so PSI in that rail at idle.
btfarm 03-24-2008, 04:38 PM I'd like to hear "it" from the horses a$$ er...mouth. What JD man seems to be referring to is the old gas engine throttle body injection service. OR?
