I have been seriously considering converting my 06 to run on veg oil, diesel is 4 dollars now. My question is about a worst case scenario, what could it possibly screw up besides the injectors and the pump?

do a little research, i don't know where to find it, but they have kits that will cause no issues

youre pretty safe if you go with a quality company. there are 3 or 4 out there, my favorite is golden guel systems.

worst case damage wise, coking up rings and injectors. carbon buildup, just be sure you have decent wvo and start up and shut down properly. youll be fine. also be sure your fuel system is always in good health - your stock delivery and wvo setup.

youll read horror stories, but dont believe them all. too many people dont pre-heat the oil or jack something else up and blame it on the veg.

I have 30K flawless miles on WVO The key to burning this in a D Max is fuel cleanliness. If you are not willing to invest in a filtration system that cleans your Vo as clean as Dino then don't do it. When a D Max as issues with Dirty Dino it will be 10 times worse with Dirty VO. I have a Particle counter that lets me filter to an ISO code equal to the Dino standard. Greasecar.com will have the production kit avail in 2 months Check that out with them. Check out my garage.

Question for Basshopper, would you be willing to share anything you would do different or any problems you might have had? I saw your pics of your filtration system, how much do you have invested in it?

I have spent the last year debugging this system Very little had to be done on the actual truck system, Couple of things to be changed but will be handle I am sure in the relased production kit. Most of the issues were with the filtration of the VO which I expected before I decided to do this. It is the key to runnnig a D Max on VO the older ones like the 6.5 do not require as clean of fuel they are pretty forgiving comparativly. I have invested about 3000 to 3500 into my system $1200 of that was the particle counter had I gotten that earlier in the debugging I would have save a lot of time seeing the impact of the changes to get to the correct cleanilness ISO Code. You will read about a lot of guys that want to do it cheaply and thats fine for Mecedes and older Cars but not for the D Max. So unless you are willing to invest in this I would not even consider doing it as you will have reliability issues with your truck. Besides if you do the math you invest $6000 in a kit for the truck and filtration system payback on that is about a year depending on how much you drive in a year. Everything has to make economic sence along with relability otherwise why bother at all as you will have sweat equity in your collection and filtering of your VO. If you have specific questions you can always PM me.
