To those of you who have installed a fumoto valve...

Should a thread sealant (loctite) of sort be used before threading it into the oil pan? Any advise would be greatly appreciated as I will be plugging mine on next OC.

Thanks in advance!

If I remember right I believe I put some thread sealant on mine. It won't hurt. I don't know if I would put loc tight on or not. But you will love your fumoto valve.

Thread tape should do just fine.

Not necessary. Loc-Tite will not work in that situation anyhow since there will be engine oil on the threads in the pan.

The direction make no mention of any sealants etc. just the supplied gasket. No leaks yet.:)

The regular plug doesn't need any sealant. Why would a Fumoto valve?

Thanks for the advice folks...I'll go without sealant. Reason I asked was I came across an article for a Femco drain system (similar concept) which suggested thread sealant for installation. This got my mind turning on the fumoto, but the install directions don't mention it nor does the current plug require it.

Probably worth 10 sec to check torque at each OCI

Had Mr. GM GoodWrench GM QuickLube Bay Stealership Dude install it dry at first FREE oil change. Asked them if they had seen any with leaks - Nope.

Thread sealant isn't necessary with a Fumoto. They provide a high quality gasket with the valve. It seals against the pan just like the plug that came with the Dmax, and nearly every other vehicle on the road.

BTW - don't overtighten; it's just not necessary. After all, it's just gravity pushing the oil against the drain plug/valve. It's NOT under any pressure, to speak of.

I installed mine a year ago as per instructions. No leaks yet.

I'll go ya one better... I installed mine with just the gasket and never had any leaks in my LLY, then when I traded it in I took the valve back out, replaced it with the original plug and put it in the LBZ with the same gasket and no sealant. That was over 55k ago and still dry as a bone.

So, no... no sealant needed;)

No leaks on mine, just the supplied gasket. I suppose a little teflon tape wouldn't hurt.

I'm definitely sold on not using any sealant now!:D
