I have been looking around for a late 90's 6.5TD K2500 Suburban. I would like to upgrade the k1500 gasser I have to a K2500. I have seen a couple k1500 available, but I want a K2500. It seems they both have 8 lug wheels.

Whats the difference? I have heard the only difference is the gear ratio, 3:42 is for the 1500, 3:73 and 4:10 are for the 2500 series. Is this correct?

Thanks

Look at the vins. LD egr controlled has an S in the 8th digit, HD non egr has an F in the 8th place. Some of the 8 lug axles are not as tuff as the 10.5"ff 14 bolt in the 3500.

I would some clarification to eliminate some confusion.
LD= light duty, HD= heavy duty.. correct?

egr has to do with smog.. correct?

So the light duty 1500 has smog control and the heavy duty 2500 doesn't or has less requirements for smog. correct?

I will be able to tell by looking at the 8th digit in the VIN, S or F if it is heavy duty or not regardless the 1500 or 2500 badging. correct?

Some of the 8 lug axles are not as tuff as the 10.5"ff 14 bolt in the 3500.They put 3500 or 1 ton SRW axles under Suburbans?

thanks for the help..

Some of the lighter 2500 14 bolt axles had smaller axles shafts. Lupey 6.5L put one in his (tahoe?) I'm not sure which the 'burban got.

Having broken one of the bigger ones, I couldn't see having anything smaller.

its a '94 (last year they called it a BLAZER) and the light 14 bolt semi floater only has 6 lugs. these 'burbs that teamjnz are looking at both have 8 lugs.

My LD K1500 has 6 lug axles & 3.73 gears, a visit to the RPO code list in FAQs can answer many questions, there are also LD K2500s, the HD/LD engine is specified in the 8th VIN digit. HD is more related to frame, gears, braking, and generally HD have a F in the 8th digit code, have to look at the code list for all things that make a HD truck, this past weekend I saw a 8 lug LD K1500 burb, until then I thought you could tell HD or LD by counting lug bolts.

BTW EGR is a curable malady with proper skills EGR sickness can be cured. :D
