: New winner in the LLY HP arena?
McRat 01-28-2005, 11:21 PM Just got back from the Dyno. This time I used a Mustang (variable load) dyno.
I was testing the PPE stack for LLY's, which is the Enforcer (a pressure/harness box) and the Hot Xcelerator, which is an uploader that bears a very striking resemblance to the Bully Dog Power Pup.
I ran the truck stock (no tuners) with just a 4" straight pipe = 271HP/491TQ
Then ran the PPE Xcelerator alone which was about 379HP (I forgot the printout, and will have to go back to get it.)
Then I ran the "Stack"...
404hp 715tq
While not remarkable to the LB7 folk, this is the strongest setup so far on my truck. Granted it is a stack, but stacking hasn't been wildly successful on the LLY. And while it is not very much over what the other tunes are doing, it is still pretty good.
Then, I went ahead a sprayed a baby shot of N20 into it for "laughs". Bottle pressure was 780psi, and the bottle was near empty, running a small solenoid with a .070" jet sprayed into the tube right before the intake manifold:
463HP 800FtLbs of tire shredin' TQ! :ro)
So a .070" jet with a small solenoid at 900PSI would probably hit 70HP.
Anyways, back to the PPE Stack, yes it's a smokey thang. Drivability isn't as nice as the Predator and certainly not the TTS. Tip in is twitchier. But IMO it's easier to drive than the Edge.
If it would stop raining for 5 minutes, I would go to the track and see what it does where it counts, but from street romps, it does not have any problem launching or shifting.
Slowly but surely, LLY stuff is getting faster and faster.
Z71 Grizzly 01-28-2005, 11:50 PM It's coming, I can feel it. 500rwhp is next for you Mcrat.:ro)

Max Power 01-29-2005, 10:21 AM Nice work McRat. I can't wait to see what you can do with it after some fine tuning.
Have you considered bigger injectors? Or Pane?
McRat 01-29-2005, 12:46 PM Not sure which way I'm going next, except to get more "Drug-Free" power.
Even with the nitrous I'm not making LB7 HP without.
Other observations:
It dyno'd slightly higher in 4th than 5th.
It dyno'd 10rwhp lower than a Dynojet.
An exhaust is worth a significant amount of HP. Probably 25rwhp or more. The truck with the stock exhaust was 246hp on a Dynojet, yet 271hp with exhaust on a Mustang.
Max Power 01-29-2005, 12:49 PM That is an fantastic baseline. 271 with only exhaust is the best I have seen. Looks like I need to get off of my a$$ and get a 4".

Yeah, I was suspicious of the numbers. Then they showed me another Dmax chart with free-flowing exhaust that dyno'd the same. Except instead of a straight pipe, he had an MBRP? 4" no cat.
With normal driveline loss on a heavy duty pickup, 271 certainly shows a sizeable gain.
Max Power 01-29-2005, 01:21 PM When I do my exhaust I will try to do a before and after on the same dyno.

Baseline, Edge, Bullydog/Quad/PPE, Hypertech, Dialbo, Superchips and TTS. It would let everyone see what boxes do what on one truck and one dyno, the same day. Hell with enough time you could event try the stacks on them all. You have reported how they drive and how they do/donot smoke so it will fill in the unanswered questions.

Well, we have a dyno day coming up first weekend in March, I'll see what additional testing I can do. The biggest unknown quantity right now is the newly released Van Aaken harness box.
I'm too much of a cheap bastage to rent a dyno for a full day to compare everything at once. My favorite technique is to pay for 3 pulls then talk them into 6.
For some of my tests, I borrowed new products. In another, I bought a unit, then resold it at a loss. In this case with the PPE Stack, I'd like to thank Nate (DSTRBD) at Performance Truck Products for lending me the system. He was very patient considering I got rained out and did not complete the track testing last week.
So far the most powerful single tune I've tested has been the TTS Level2 Beta for LLY's. I ran out of time at the dyno to test it stacked, but my guess is it would have went above 404 stacked.

Pat,
I'm thinking you and I should switch trucks for approx. 2500 miles or so.
I'll take your truck over to Westech's Superflow dyno and submit it to the
"Trippin Testing Sequence" of all available LLY tunes/stacks in every possible configuration, while data logging all parameters. :D
The next level awaits..............Let's "Git R Done".:ro)
Disclaimer:
No LLYs will be harmed during the proposed testing sequence.
A representative from the A(ACLU) will be present at all times.:D
Some assembly required.
Your results may vary.
Fuses are not included and must be purchased/tested separately.
mrmagu 01-29-2005, 05:38 PM McRat,

Don't make me get injectors!
Did you notice where the second alternator bolts in is right next to the existing CAC inlet pipe? Looks like there is just enough room for a paxton-style centrifugal blower. Wonder if the heads will stay on at 45psi??
Keep EGT's under control, increase throttle response, and easy installation...
fredw 01-29-2005, 06:47 PM good numbers McRat:
i seen you said you had better numbers in 4th than 5th gear, was it a big difference, or not much, what mph can you start in fourth at, i was on a mustang eailer this week and was not able to dyno the fourth gear, because of no tech ll, i ended up starting at 76mph and going up to 104mph
i also see on the nitrous run that your hp was its highest at 3400rpm, do you feel that fifth gear would give the same results, or cause more load to help find the max hp
i might have to find a tech ll for our dyno day if the results are that much better):h i have been now on a few load cell mustangs and seen my stock base lines with in a few hp on different days, with the exact same tq:ro) , it makes ones tunning of different stacks and tunes very accurate
the only difference i did see tho was running jkva215, the first time in nov. it made 466@935, the other day it made 483@932 a whopping 232net hp, all other tunes made the same as before:D
keep up the good work and you will be in the 500 club, add lp to you 404 and you will be close to 450, then add a little wi, and you will be knocking on 500hp daily driver lly, it sure makes these trucks fun to drive):h

the paxton idea sounds like a good easy one for the lb7.........control of the vanes would be required for the lly

5th gear only read a couple of HP less, but the power drops off faster for some reason.
The nitrous proves that if you had more air, you would make power past 3400.
These engines are load sensitive. Depending on what load you put to them, you can get different HP readings.
Gassers are easier to figure out. ;)

491TQ is about right. We didn't have a Tech II to lock it in gear, so it might have gotten more torque if we started the pull at a low RPM.
tpitt 01-31-2005, 12:23 PM At BD-Powers dyno days in October, my LLY stacked with BD-Powers Intimidator on level 3 (race extreme version) and Edge box (level 5) got me 415.3 rwh. Don't know torque though. This was on a Mustang dyno. Wasn't getting enough fuel. I now have an Airdog to put on it when I have the time. Also this was with cat in place. Results should be on their website, in the 375 hp or below. We didn't know what it would put out, so we entered it in that class. My LLY with the intimidator on it would flat blow away my 2002 LB7 with the Hot juice (without ***.). In favor of my LB7 though the tranny was getting weak. tpitt
BMDMAX 02-07-2005, 12:15 PM I just put down 420 and 800 on diesel only with the LLY at the Suncoast dyno day. The truck runs pretty strong and clicks off the shifts nicely with the Stage V. I hope to get it to the track later this month for some E.T.s to see how the power is really getting to the ground.
Even on the dyno the VVT was able to clean this box up, the smoke was really low. I would think nitrous might even slow it down but I have no way to test that.

If it shifts correctly, you will be solid 13's on #2, if not low 13's assuming good air.

Thanks!
The only time I brought the Edge to the dyno, it got dyno-shy, and didn't show valid HP numbers. The MPH numbers I got in the 1/4mi indicated it was no more potent than the Predator, actually a bit down. Possibly because the shifting/bark.
Even with the modest fuel available with the existing tuners, nitrous certainly works on the LLY's, both the track and the dyno.
Z71 Grizzly 02-07-2005, 11:28 PM That's awesome Brandon, I did not know an LLY has made that much rwhp already. I can't wait to see what's going to happen in a couple months.
Z71 Grizzly 02-08-2005, 09:55 AM What kind of goodies do you have for the LLY to make 420rwhp? You can PM me if you don't wanna say. I won't tell I just trying to sink it all in.
BMDMAX 02-08-2005, 10:26 AM Exhaust, Juice, Suncoast Stage V, and gauges. The speed limiter was removed with the Predator.
That is all that has been done to the truck. I am hoping it will improve as there is only 2200 miles on the truck and it should loosen up a good bit.
I need to address some fuel system issues though as the LLY seems to be even more sensitive to rail pressure than the LB7.

dmaxalliTech 02-08-2005, 11:18 AM Brandons truck is the second truck I have seen make those numbers with just the HJAT. Nate's Truck (DSTRBD) made ~420 rwhp on JK's Superflow back last spring with a then beta HJAT. That was just after I installed a SC III in his truck, the runs before the trans he was only at ~370-380 IIRC. Same truck, same tune, same dyno, less then 24 hours apart.
DSTRBD 02-08-2005, 11:41 AM 420-425 were the numbers after the SC III. It makes power on the dyno, just cant seem to get it to act right on the track. Turbo barks twice between shifts and slows it way down.
