Has anyone else experienced a vibration in 4 high at highway speeds. I just first used 4x4 the other day on an icy road and I was very dissapointed. The truck is a 04 GMC 2500HD Diesel no lift kit. When I put it back in 2wd it vibrated for miles untill I nearly came to a stop then it finally disengaged. My 82 chevy beater is smoother in 4x4 than my high dollar new truck!!:(

I had the same problem, and after time it got worse! Then the transfer case cracked at the pump and leaked oil. -:t Had to replace the case and rebuild the transfer case. These transfer cases are made of magnesium and are very thin!
I have electric shift and noticed that it would clunk when engaging, this has also stopped since rebuilding. In tow /haul mode it had more vibration. My truck had 100,000 miles when this happened, I use my 4x4 lots in winter towing on the hiway. Works like new again:ro) 110,000 MILES orignal injectors

Not trying to insult you but, is it more of a howl or hum than a vibration. My truck seems to howl a lot at highway speeds in 4wd especially in the tow haul mode.

It is more of a howl but it does vibrate some. An owner of a driveshaft balancing service that i deal with was complaining of the same thing on his new truck and he said it was a vibe. from the front shaft. I dont know what to think, it sure is noisy compared to other trucks.

A lot of people say the same thing. The chevy's are more noisy than the Fords and Dodges when in 4wd.

Did you ever get the problem fixed? What was the cure? I am having the same problem with my truck.

Thanks

TTT...

I am having the same problem with my truck also, just seems to howl and vibrate quite a bit. It howls like there's no diff or transfer case fluid in it, but there is!

I have a wierd roaring noise that comes from mine when in 4 high. If I'm running along at say 40mph and ease off the accelerator to maintain that speed or slow down, it roars some. Freaked me out when I first heard it, but it seems to work okay, so whatcha gonna do?
As for disengaging the T-fer case, if you're running down the road and punch it back into 2WD, just let off the pedal for a second or two and it should drop out. I noticed that if I stay in the throttle when trying to shift out of 4WD that it wants to stay engaged.
Hope this helps.
