I've bent the rods in my LB7. I just bought a new crank and rods. I posted last week about finding a good Hi-Po diesel mechanic in the ohio area. One of my dads friends is an old schooler who pulled tractors in the early 90's and got out of it because his wife...LOL...anyways he works mostly on semis tractors and occasionally Hi-Po pulling tractors, oh yea and he works on alot on cummings and 6.5's...i asked him about working on my truck...putting rods and crank in bearings +...he said he could do it but ive always herd duramax's were different than other diesels and where really hard to work on. He is a very good machinist and diesel mechanic...My questoin is, is do you think that he is taking on a bigger job than he can handle??....by that i meen he dosen't understand that they are more complicated than he thinks?? By the way he has never worked on a duramax before...Anyways thanks for your input as you can tell i need all the help i can get...thanks

You could contact Daves Diesel in Muncie, IN or Angola, IN. The one in Muncie is closer to you I think. Daves in Angola has a Dmax pullin truck, so I know they know how to work on them up there.

You bent the rods running the bastard (Edge and Quadzilla) stack? Or did you run over a big tree stump? :D

No i should explain better...i was having injector problems and i ether started it...the #4 piston was at top dead center and when i cranked on it all the ehter sucked down in that cylinder and bent the rod...sooo...thats the deal...my question was is do you think that the guy im going to already is getting in over his head with this job...it seems that he dont think that the 6.6 is any more complicated than the 6.5...that is what i was asking

Oh starting fluid = bad on these trucks. If this guy knows his way around a motor he should be able to accomplish the task.

A shop service manual for torque specs overall plus sequence on the head I would say is a must. Since you are going to replace the injectors replace the high pressure lines also and it should be a piece of cake for him.

The block is hardened not sleeved so hopefully it can be cleaned up . Or start looking for a replacement just in case. Most of the guys needing a block are those with cracked pistons. So hopefully you'll be fine.

Good luck.

Ether!

That stuff should come with a big red Skull and Crossed Bones on the front and a bumper sticker that says, "I blew up my other engine with Bubba's Ether!"

If you can't tell - I absolutely hate that stuff. It has hurt more engines than hormones in a teenager.

OMG...thats funny...Ether sux...I talked to Eric Mechant today...he says that he'll do the job so thats prb what im gonna do...Hes gonna Hoan the cylinders, key the crank and cam shafts, all bearings and seals, decompress the pistons and install my crank and rods...he said it might be an injector knock or a bent push rod...im hoping so...hes gonna run a compressoin test on it...I had someone hook it up to EFI and he said it was a bent rod, but eric says that there is no way to tell if its a bent rod using EFI...Is that true?? I was wondering if I didnt just misunderstand him...Thanks for the help guys

Compression check would be the only way.

I agree. I would think that Tony would be the closer than Merchant. They both do wonderful work. Guess it comes down the $$. Good luck!
