Hs anyone tried disconnecting the VVT controls at the turbo to get more boost? My engine usually peaks out about 29 psi and was wondering if I could get more boost by doing this.

That will yield nothing but trouble. If the sensor is not working then the vanes on the turbine will not be able to actuate and you will end up with reduced power and poor performance.

Also, since you have no wastegate if the vanes cannot acutate theoretically you could grenade the turbo by overboosting although like I said, the programming on the PCM won't allow you to make any power without proper sensing on the turbo.

I would not do it but if you do let us know how it goes.

There is probably a MAP sensor that will shutdown the engine hard when boost exceeds safe levels. That is not a fun thing to do to the engine.

You are best off finding someone local with a Tech II and going down to a dyno.

You can watch and command vane position with the Tech II, so you will be able to see what effect the VVT vane position has.

I disconnected it just to see what would happen. As soon as I started the engine, it immediately set a code and the check engine light illuminated.

I figured that I might as well check it out to see how it ran - - - It smoked a lot on acceleration and ran like crap. Everything is now plugged back in, the codes have been cleared and it is running fine.
