Depends how much you want to spend. I have a Diablosport Predator but I don't plan on doing a whole lot of modifacations. Best bang for the buck imho.

look up Mike L... he's a member here on dp, and he's located in CA. specializes in trans rebuilds, especially allisons. if you're lookin at backin up 4-500 hp, you will need some different clutch pacs, tc, vb, and maybe input/outputs...

suncoast and ats sell kits for the do it yourself person, but mike essentially sells and installs the entire kit. these kits are designed to handle 2 or 3 times the stock output of the truck....

this is him: http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/member.php?u=773

He doesnt necessarily need new clutches, but does need a Transgo kit installed. That BD valve thingamajig is a portion of that kit. He got the big cost out of the way with the converter.
Contact MikeL, and he can set you on the right path.

you dont think clutches are necessary??

i've got a quad on 135, limped the trans 3 times. i was always under the assumption that once a trans limped, the clutch pacs were slippin or on the verge of it.

if the 135 tune is enough to limp, isn't it time to change the clutches??

sorry, i've been working under the idea this whole time that a transgo kit wasn't enough to stop decent power from forcing slippage in these trannies....:o:

TheBac

well, if the trans has limped, yes. But if the stock clutches are good, then they could be reused. Gotta go into the trans to find out.

durapower,

Finish your trans build
PPE Hot+2
any decent lift pump (Kennedy, TTS, PPE, Superdiesel, Edelbrock, etc)

that'll get you to 500-550rwhp

after that, to go higher HP than that, then its rods, turbo, headstuds, dual cp3s, etc etc etc

well, if the trans has limped, yes. But if the stock clutches are good, then why not.

is the transgo kit enough to keep the trans from limpin if it never has been limped??

what does the tg kit do exactly??

Durapower

my tranny has 6000mi on it i bought it brand new from GM not rebuilt.

transgo helps raise the internal line pressures to hold the clutches together. IIRC, also has different springs for the apply plates.

so with a transgo and lift pump i will be good to go with a PPE hot2?

i can understand that then....

hoqw about this: if the stock alli is good for ~90-100hp over stock, what does droppin in a transgo bump that too??

thank for the help.

edit: what he says VVVV

I still say "ask MikeL or DmaxalliTech what you need" first.

Whitetrash, IIRC Tony was running just a converter and transgo kit for a couple years during the time he was developing the Moonshine tunes. Never had an issue.

just a guess, but I'd venture to say that with the hot+2, a SC stage III would be minium.:D

PPE Xcellerator! Even provides great mpg in stage 2 and plenty of power in every level.

I found that level 5 gives the best mpg's...just be real easy on the gas peddle..:D

Busted

I would also agree a SCIII would be a minimun to hold the 350hp tune

I get 16 Mpg with the 350hp tune which is pretty good since I have never gotten any better mileage when I was running 265's and the Edge EZ. I also am not afraid of the go pedal
