Lost Communication with Glow Plug Control Module
Anyone know how or why you'd get this? I traced the wires from the Module back to the fuse box, the plugs, and to the big harness on the driver side, but I can't find anything that looks weird. I even opened the connector and the pins all look and feel normal. Anyone have an idea wtf is going on?

Probably looking at a bad glow plug control module. They have a tendensy to fail. Does the glow plug light come on when you turn the key on when the engine is cold?

I just changed mine out today on my 04.5. Pretty easy to change other then getting the stupid electrical connectors apart. Appearantly the early ones had problems. Does your glow plug light seem to stay on for a long period of time when the key is turned to the ON position? That's what mine was doing when I was getting the code. You'll have to get the part from the dealer as it is a vendor direct part. The dealership had to order mine. 112 bucks tax included.

Damn, yes the light stays on until I turn the engine over. Then it goes off and the SES light comes on. Bleh, well thanks for the heads up guys.

Isn't that covered under the emission warranty of 5yr/100K miles?

good question. I'm calling my dealer to find that out. I doubt it because "its not part of the drive-train" but who knows.
Furthermore, if they get $112 for the part out the door, my dealer gets a $100 diagnostic fee for researching warrenty work problems, so if they hit you with that you just blew the warranty work deductable on the new part...

If you have the yellow dot on the module its most likely bad. They had a bad batch of them in the 04.5 lly. I just had mine replaced at the dealer and it was covered under the emission waranty = no deductable.
It did take them 4 days to get the part though. Note: dont let the wait to start light stay on too long, you can overheat the glowplugs and can cause the tip to burn up and fall into the cylinder.

I just paid for mine out right when I did it. I didn't want to have to take my truck in, have them go over it and then have to wait for the part to come in. Not sure if they would have warrantied it or not. It takes all of 10 min to do so why not just do it myself.

Thats good to know, i didnt know the glowplug(s) just stays on...
I called my dealer and i was told it wasnt under warranty but i dont think the clown knew what he was talking about. I have another call into the service manager. If i can get it replaced for free why not.
by the time i drop the thing off at the dealer, get a ride home then go get the truck im going to spend $50 in fuel!
I'll let you guys know what i hear, im going to ask about the emission warr.

Just got a call from the dealership. I'm at 92k and was told anything over 36K/3yr is an automatic $100 deductable.
Its not even worth the risk of letting them diagonose it and tell me its not covered under warranty.
I like the 10 minute fix and not having to deal with GM!
