: Power Steering Leaking?

Any thoughts... got an 2002 that is losing power steering fluid all over the driver's side. I'm relatively new to the chevy/duramax world (ex-ford guy).

I'm going to clean everything up and start looking for a leak, but I was wondering if there is a typical problem area?
Thanks

Check your lines/hoses - both of mine were/are leaking, and my neighbor with the same truck had his leak too.

Thanks. That's on my list in the morning. Next thing trying to find an oil leak on the passenger side running down the bellhousing. Almost looks like a rear main leaking except that it's coming off the side more than anything else.

Had both coolant lines go bad at the same time. The compressed fitting gets un seated in there and it leaks so I replaced them and the dealer said it is a very common problem and guess what it's been about a month and there leaking again good luck:mad:

Well, in a way I'm hoping that it's just the lines, but I'm hoping for better luck once it's fixed otherwise I could have bought a ford 6.0 ;) We knew we had some problems with leaks when we bought it. Just figured I'd get through that and resolve them. Then enjoy the truck. Should be a good truck after some TLC.

Mine was leaking at 12000mi. and the dealer said some bolts were loose, then at 17000 mi. it leaked again and they replaced the whole pump. Everything is fine now,we will see.

Strange sort of... today I went ahead and pulled the inner fender. Spent a couple of hours of heavy cleaning what seemed like an unbelievable amount of build up so that I could track the leak down. All I found in the end was a noticable dripping at the interface between the hydrualic brake booster and the brake reservoir. Is this repairable like a gasket or o-ring?

I also saw a much smaller leak down at the end of the power steering motor where the shaft comes out to connect to the steering linkage. Any thoughts on this?
Thanks.

You probably have to replace the Host that goes to the brake booster and also replace the power steering gear.

Mine has been leaking from the end of the power steering gear just like yours and im just replacing mine with one that had a lifetime warranty.

2500HD, do you mind telling my how much the part was and how much trouble it was to replace the steering gear?

What part is the 'host" on the hydrobooster? i was thinking that I would either have to rebuild (if possible) or replace the hydrobooster?

I picked mine up at autozone for about 295, core charge was 145. Theres 3 bolts holding the steering gear to the frame and and the your going to have to remove the lower intermediate steering shaft and pitman arm. Also the the two power steering hoses.

if you got any questions are tq specs i can post them up too

Thanks 2500HD. It's on my list to do. I will have to get the torque spec from here or try to buy a good service manual.

Any issues with getting the steering back to the same alignment?

I guess this will be number 3 on my list of things to do ;) I'm determined to get all of these leaks fixed... at least to the point that I don't see a spot!
1) turbo leaking oil :(
2) hydrobooster/brake master cylinder leaking
3) Steering gear!

Then I can get to the fun stuff for performance and/or mpg

You should get a manual from HelmInc. (http://www.helminc.com/helm/homepage.asp?r=) They're a little expensive but well worth the cost if you like to do your own repairs.

You should see my parts pile, i have about $1600 work of parts waiting to be installed, but im still waiting for my post important part

I also missed 3 events cause of this missing part....

Mine is leaking between the hydroboost and master cylinder. I did not see an answer to the question on what it takes to stop that leak. Any thoughts??

Mine is leaking at the actual box. I thought I had it fixed with stop-leak but it didn't work .
