: Vac pump removal..Belt Routing?
94 6pt5 3500HD 03-14-2008, 09:54 PM I would like to remove the vac pump, as I'm running the turbo-master. My truck has no A/C. Not sure how to run the belt, as the pump is on the upper left side of engine. A pic or diagram with belt # would be much appreciated!
IamDave0887 03-14-2008, 10:19 PM do you have a picture of your engine bay? i never heard of the vac pump on the upper left side. the vac pump on my truck was on the lower passenger side. i used the goodyear gatorback 460995 99.5" belt today when i removed my vacuum pump today.
Turbine Doc 03-14-2008, 11:37 PM Just took this from my 94 GM manual, I noticed in there with a/c they forgot to include the vac pump which is in same place on all 6.5 engines

Mine is the same as "no a/c" but I don't have an "H", or idler pulley.
Turbine Doc 03-15-2008, 12:16 AM Was yours ever A/C equipped, and maybe somebody did some custom routing without a idler pulley before you got it
96 OILBURNER 03-15-2008, 12:17 AM What is in the location "G" on your truck?
94 6pt5 3500HD 03-15-2008, 12:17 AM I'm wondering...I'll try to get up a pic in the morning..thankyou for the responses guys..

chickenhunterbob 03-16-2008, 03:55 PM I always knew there was something funny about the diagram in the service manual that TD posted in post #3. "With A/C" doesn't jive with my arrangement of accessories.
So, here's what I think...there are a few errors on the diagram.
The proofreader at that point appears to have been weary, maybe, It can be a monotonous task, I know.
At any rate, I believe, that the captions below each diagram are mixed up. Left is without A/C, right is with.
On the left diagram, the letters on the diagram should reflect the following accessories in the key:
A - Pulley, Vacuum pump (rest are correct)
On the right diagram:
H - Pulley, A/C compressor (rest are correct).
I didn't think of it before, but I'm pretty sure this is right.
Illustration in Figure 4 on page 6E2-2 of the manual shows the different locations of vacuum pump with or without A/C.

My setup looks like the one on the left. If I remove the pump I will need an idler I'm assuming.

I suppose, but in the drawings there is no idler on any of the 6.5 configurations, although pretty much every gas engine has one.The 4.3, 5.0 and 5.7 gassers have an idler in the vicinity of the 6.5 (without air) vac pump, but I have no idea if they would work, or what they look like.
beenpickin 03-18-2008, 03:27 PM Sorry to dredge this up if it's already been resolved. These are photos of (what I assume are) my 1993 idler. Looks like the 1994 illustration w/no a/c and w/o vacuum pump.

At first I thought it was a vacuum pump untill I realised I had a mechanical waste gate. Sure looks awfully complex for a idler, but I guess that's what it is.
It looks like it would do the trick but I need it for the time being. I might consider trades for a passenger side mounted alternator or perhaps better yet, air compressor.

I suspect that what you have there is what's left of a vacuum pump with the vacuum pod removed, maybe, left in place to function as an idler?
IamDave0887 03-18-2008, 03:52 PM it does look strangely like a vac pump but with all major parts removed so it just spins and does nothing.
Dracor85 03-18-2008, 04:19 PM if you look in my garage I took off my AC and my vaccume pump and custom made a idler bracket let me know if you want the specs on the bracket.
beenpickin 03-18-2008, 06:21 PM Nice bracket Drakor

It threw me a bit, looking for nonexistant vacuum lines. Then I saw what they actually looked like and learned 1993s were not provided with a vacuum pump. It does look to me like overkill for an idler. http://imgs.inkfrog.com/pix/pickin/idler.JPG
