Hey all. I am buying a 2003 DMAX. Was looking at the tranny temp gauge when i took it for an extended test drive. How high should the temperature get? It never got much above 100 which is the lowest reading on the gauge. Is that ok.
Thanks

Mine dosn't get very high at all during daily driving.

Pac NW, 40-50's rain, maby 120 when fully warmed up.

Where are you and how cold is it outside? It's in the low 30's here and with the winter cover on front, the trans temp doesn't budge for about 20 miles. The temp not going up does not hurt the trans, it will hold the shifts longer trying to warm up.

i am in maryland. It is quite cold right now. Thanks for the info. I was just wondering if the gauge was busted or something.

is it important to use a cover on the front in the cold like this? or does it matter?

Take it for a long ride and maybe it will warm up some. Does it have the winter front on the truck or somewhere in it? You may want to have it based on your location.

It's a vinyl cover for the grill of the truck, factory option or throw-in for many. Blocks the cold air to a point from entering the radiator allowing the engine to warm up to operating temp. Also blocks the tranny cooler for the same reason.

What about min operating temp, like when the air is well below zero?
