When installing a lift pump, is it better to put it before or after the additional filter?
Thanks

Not sure if it really matters, but I believe the pump needs to be located closest to the tank to work properly.

I use a Stanadyne FM100 lift pump with built in filter, so my fuel is filtered before the pump.

I only run around 2 psi (measured at the test port), to do that I use a bypass and needle valve system.

Not sure what the specs are on the FM100, not sure if there is enough pressure for the real performance guys.

Where are you located in Washington?

I am running 2 fm100's in parallel, duno if I qualify as a performace guy or not but it works for me. Dont know what 1 would do since I alwasy ran 2?

JMO but put it close to the tank as possible and before any restriction. Granted it would probably be best to have a "sticks and stones" fule filter before the pump and then your fine mic filter after the pump but I personaly wouldnt worry about a pre pump filter. Most pumps arnt good at sucking and thats what kills em, they are designed and work best pushing fuel as apposed to pulling it.

did some testing yesterday on the dyno, and found that when making the 500hp on a stack, there was no change in a lift pump on or not on, both power curves looked the same, so no gain with the pump on in my truck

i should mention, i have a chckvalve bypass around the pump, which allows me to turn on and off the pump:ro)

Thanks for all the responses! Sounds like I will be putting the pump right after the six port switch for selecting the tanks, then the filter. I am looking at a 6 psi flow thru pump (so if it quits I don't get stranded!) Of course this all leads me to wanting a fuel pressure guage.....does it ever stop?

SS396, I am in Bellingham.

You want the filter befor the pump. Even a 10 micro will do the trick of protecting the pumps, and they will last longer too. GMCSLEHD is putting some SUPER DIESEL high performance on demand pumps out, built to order. Run nice and quiet at low boost, and high flow at high boost. It's a twin pump set up that free flows if they quit.

Hey, GMCSLEHD if you are out there can you tell me about the Super Diesel High Performance pump you are putting together?

PM him if interested. They flow better than the OTHERS that I've tried and are less expensive.

Thanks Super Diesel, I will do that!
