Since there is no Programmer for a 6.5 that will allow me to select performance Tow or Fuel Economy I was thinking of getting a couple of chips from Heath and swapping them when I road trip or Tow or want to play. How delicate is the socket that the chip goes in... Would I do better swapping the hole computer?
Does any one make a Downgraded HP Max Fuel Economy chip?
Just something I was thinking about.
thanks

They are easy to change. Less than 5 minutes although you have to be careful of static discharge and handle the prom accordingly. I don't think you need two of them. I have ver 2 in my 95 and it works pretty good although I'm getting alot of heavy smoke when I hammer it. Turbomaster is next. If you are towing I think v2 is fine then again there is nothing wrong with stock . Truck runs better with it power wise but I mainly bought it to correct a problem with mine. It also gets rid of the built in rev limiter or whatever it is that won't let the truck go over 80ish. Tranny shifts a little better. You would need to talk to someone with v4 but I think that one is more for performance. Think Chrisk1500 has v4.

It could be done, but probably isn't worth the trouble. Could become a costly problem if you zap a chip w/ static or create a wiring harness problem from tugging that computer out and stuffing it back in over and over...
I've got the v.2 and it's the Tow chip. But it made a huge performance difference as well (like being able to powerbrake my burb). And the fuel economy held steady empty and improved towing.
With a turbo master you can tune out the excessive black smoke, the factory vac system just wouldn't stop it on mine so I made my own TM.
There is no way I'd go to the trouble of pulling the glovebox and swapping chips (and pulling on the computer wiring over and over). There is NO reason to go back to the factory chip (except when selling the truck).

what kind of boost are you getting with v2 and the vac wastegate? I seem to spike 16 then hold a steady 11-12psi. I am wondering about my cheap boost gauge.

My friend said they make a dual chip mount for that style chip that has a switch to go between the two. I was thinking about doing this for my truck for when I tow until I found out that it costs $200 for the setup.

Thats about what I get with my v2 chip. I can hold 12lbs in the middle revs, but boost falls off to 10 lbs by the upper revs. I am really thinking that I need a turbomaster to bump up the boost and lower my EGTs.
