Hi guys, just wondering if anybody has compared 4:10 gears with 3:83 gears? What's the fuel mileage difference and rpm? thanks

Well I can tell you my experience with my patrol rigs.

I had an '02 GMC 2500 non-HD ECSB 6.0/3.73. It was replaced with an '05 GMC 2500HD ECSB 6.0/4.10.

The '02 had better acceleration at higher speeds (above 65ish) and about 1 mpg better when running empty.

The '05 is noticably better on dead stop acceleration and faster response at slower speeds. Tows trailers much much better too. The '02 pretty much fell on it's face when I had the horse trailer connected.

I don't remember what the '02 ran for rpm's, but I think it was about 300 less.

IMO if you tow get 4:10, if you don't get 3:42. Don't mess with 3.73
