I've been looking for some time for a suitable diesel powerplant for my old Land Rover. Conclusion so far is that 4 cylinder diesels around 100 hp and 150 lb torque are few and far between here in north america. Since the old Rover came with about 65 hp and 120 torque my aim is to increase power by about 30%.

If they are out there, so few were sold that is going to be painful getting parts, for example, volvo, peugeot, nissan, mercedes.

But Toyota sold a fair number of FJ60s with diesels. Anyone have experience with these? It would be too much to ask for someone with experience putting one in a Land Rover, but if you have, let me know.

Dave,

Try the "ToyotaDieselMadness" site. Paste in: http://www.toyotadiesel.com

They should have someone who'd know about this.

Put a CTD 4BT in it 3.9 liters of torque. Turbocharged and intercooled

Got Juice has got the answer. If you're north of the border the Toyota B series isn't a bad option. There aren't too many of them on this side of the fence. A few years ago I did a little research about repowering my '78 FJ40 with a diesel. A few folks have pulled off 6.2/6.5 conversions, but the consensus was to find a cummins 4BT from a "bread truck" and go from there.
