Here is a link to a site containg a large biodiesel section. If you ever thought about running svo or making your own biodiesel from wvo, this site has some good info to get you started.

Wow, I am learning more and more every single time I get on here. It's amazing what people think about diesel engines when I was reading the part about " Are diesels old technology".

Yeah I read that section as well. In Amereica diesels are the small fish in a big pond. Europe is much more prevalent.

I liked reading the sections from the DIY people. It really demystifies the entire biodiesel concept. Diesel comes from fossille fuels just like gasoline. Biodiesel comes from plant base just like ethanol. So it is just the envirometely correct version.

It's funny to think you could go gather all of McDonalds used frier oil, heat it to remove the water, mix in some lye/methanol mixture, let the glycerin settle to the bottom and whola, biodisel made from wvo wasted vegetable oil.

The entire concept is really quite simple. Not really as mystical as it sounds before doing research.

I have found that Bluesun biodiesel company is based out of Ft.Collins, Colorado. They manufacture biodiesel from unused plant oil, mainly the soybean.( virgin oil). They are going to switch to Corn based oil very soon.

They have 3 distributors all very close to me. Lasalle oil (b20 2.17/g), Cox oil ( b20 2.25/g) Poudre Valley Co-op ( b20 2.30/g). That is 80% petro diesel and 20% bluesun biodiesel.

Going to have to try some b20. Sounds like better lubrication and higher cetane but lower btu and more chance of gell/cloud.

Interesting never the less!

Why does it gel more?

More fats in it. Animal and poultry baised Biodesel as well as WVO clouds and gels quicker in lower temps than say Mustard seed oil freshly made. There is anti gel agents for this like I stated in the other posts. You have to do your own experimenting with different Biodiesels to see what temp you can get it down to before geling. Funny thing is that are biggest producer of veggie oil is not being exploited yet.

Are they trying to come out with a less gelling Bio mix?

Haven't seen a pure biodiesel mix with the same low gel point as say winter diesel fuel.
A lot are trying various blends including additives, kerosene and even gasoline. Check threads at these sites for cold weather discussions:
