Not trying to make a duplicated thread but thought this would be more approminate place to bring up this topic. Anyway recently this cold weather has been making me thinking about something like high idle so I'd get faster warm-up (cab and fluids). In some days it was so cold that even after running for 15 minutes it felt the same. I ran into this website and thought maybe this would be a good solution.

Just wondering - is it true that on a gasser it can be bad if left idling for a long period of time? I know it's bad for diesel but am not sure about the gasser. My truck spend alot of time idling. Most frequently in the winter for warming up, at least twice a day (before & after work). Also I do snowplowing so it is not uncommon to leave it idling while I am shoveling sidewalks or catching a break. Would it be worth the investment? Any input would be great.

Good question. I dont know if the gasses has the option. I installed mine and was EASY. Works well for me. Good luck.

You might want to ask Max Power, but I'm pretty sure that you could high idle a gasser if it has the PTO option "hidden" in the PCM like the D-Maxers have. However, I really wouldn't recommend it on a gasser. Idling is about the worst thing you can do to a gas engine. From the research I've done, dead idling is hard on any engine. However, high idling is a good alternative for the diesels.

Instead of the high idle, I'd recommend a winter cover. Although it won't help that much at a stationary idle, it will help the engine get up to operating temp quickly after some slow, easy driving. On the gas, you'll probably want to remove after it reaches operating temp because the gas will maintain heat once it's running, at least in my experience.

I just did a bit of searching and found out that only 8.1L gasser and Duramax has the PTO option "hidden" in the PCM. So the other (and expensive) option is the link I mentioned above. Winter cover does sound like a good idea but that would be a hassle for me to do every day, you know ... putting them on when starting up, then drive for a while and pull over to take the cover off. It could work but not something I would want to do everyday. I want something that can be done simple like the press of a button.

Are you saying that high idle on a gasser won't make any difference in engine performance from dead idle? Thanks.
