i have a slight problem here. i got up this mornin and went out and checked all of my fluids under my hood and when i went to the engine oil dipstick, it showed to be like 2 in over full. it doesn't smell like diesel like when my injectors went out and it doesn't smoke either. i have been noticing my coolant is getting lower and thought i might have a seal or gasket out and that is what is getting in there but i can't really tell. the dealer told me to drain the oil and start fresh and see if it keeps on rising. is there anyone out there that has had these same problems?
thanks

Does the oil look milky? Sign of water in oil.
Has you MPG gone down lately? Sign of fuel in oil.
Stupid question, was truck level? Did you try taking the oil level a few times to see if you got the same readings?
Just throwing stuff out there.

I would try this first. Try pulling the dipstick and let it set a while to allow the oil to drain out of the dip stick tube then recheck. Sometimes oil gets trapped above the dipstick centralizing nublet which has often caused a false high level reading.

yes the truck was level and no it didn't look milky, and also no the mileage really has changed much. thanks for the help. if u have any more ideas i would greatly appreciate it.
ps ill try the multiple readings

I have also found that oil seems to get sucked up into the dipstick tube somehow. I stick it three or four more times and then it seems to read OK. It only does this cold. If I check it a couple hours after shutdown it reads fine. I freaked the first time it did this, but didn't smell any diesel and didn't show any diesel on the paper towel test. It's definitely a pain in the behind, especially on something as simple as a dipstick on such a complex motor.

dmaxaggie, are you checking the oil without letting it get warm first? In other words, did you just got out and check the oil without having the engine run first? Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't it typical to let the engine get warm and then shut it off, let it sit about 10 minutes and check? If the engine is cold, then all the oil has been sitting in the pan all night long and hasn't had a chance to distribute itself throughout the engine, leading it what appears to be high levels of oil. Try running it for awhile, get it warm, shut it off, wait 10 minutes and check again. You should see a difference in levels... this also goes for tranny fluid too. In my experience, cold levels are inaccurate and I always try to get both engine and tranny temp up to full operating temperature before checking oil and fluids... hope this helps!

o one more thing do yall have a hard time telling exactly where it is at on that round dipstick. i surely do unless i check it when it is cold in the mornin.

I drilled holes in mine. Very easy now to tell where my oil level is. Easy to do as well.

If you are worried about antifreeze in the oil it may not show up milky unless the truck has been running a while. The antifreeze lays below the oil and when you pull the dipstick out of the engine the oil wipes the antifreeze off but does indicate a high level. When the truck has been sitting pull the drain plug, if there is antifreeze it will come out first. Also I have also had the dipstick error that a bear refers to. Check it more than once. Good luck

Cold or hot makes no difference. Doesn't anyone pull the stick out, wipe it off, put it back in and then check the level anymore? Later! Frank

I do Frank :)
And always on a cold engine (setting overnite) if I can

ya so do i. always at least check 2 or 3 times when it is cold. well i pulled the plug this mornin and what came out was oil. im startin to think that maybe when i had my injectors replaced they didn't put a o-ring back right or something like that. but thats just a thought.
