I plan to install a turbo onto the 6.2 I have. I was wondering about wastegate control. What's the simplest way to control it? I was planning on running an electric vacuum, cannister, and the engine pump. To run my power brakes. But wouldn't the vacuum signal stay the same? I think a wastegate works on the variation of engine vacuum. Or am I wrong? Is there a cheaper way then a $200+ boost controler? http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/confused.gif

are you going to use a gm turbo or something else?

Most of the turbo's used on 6.2's don't use a wastegate. If you feel the need to use a wastegate, try to adapt an adjustable wastegate turbo that gets it signal from manifold pressure. Also, you would be a lot happier using the hydroboost brake system that came with your diesel blazer, it uses the power steering pump for braking pressure.;) The only needed reason for vacuum is to operate climate controls, if you have vacuum operated ducts.

it's a complete 6.5 TD setup. So it has a wastgate.
Blazer wasn't a diesel. I bought a J code engine out of a 1 ton. (seller wouldn't part with the hydroboost)
The ducts on the late model isn't moved by vac. (I think)
With the engine vac, the cannister, and the vac assist pump. (for race cars with low vac) I can run the booster.
How would a wastegate get a signal from the manifold?

get a waste gate actuator off a 92 or 93 6.5 turbo it is a spring pot not vacuum at all!!

sounds like a plan. Is there any adjustablity to that?

get turbomaster from heath or i think kennedy sells them now at $70 it doesn't get much easier.

Most brakes on diesels don't have vacuum boosters. They have a system called hydroboost. It runs off of your power steering pump. I know my '82 6.2L does.

my boss's '96 powerstroke has a belt driven vac pump that looks identical to the '94 -up 6.5 vac pumps that is only there for the brake booster. i'm not sure what presssure the 6.2 cam driven vac pumps create but it might be enough to run the brakes alone.

Guys. I'm not going to run the brakes of the pump alone. I've got a electric vacuum pump. I've used one in my monte carlo. (stroked 421" SBC) The cam is very radical (for a normal gas engine) So the vac was very weak. I also installed a cannister. I plan to set up a simular system on this one. here's a pic of the pump....

I'll probablly tie all the pumps together and can it.
