Just picked up my wheel to wheel SS 304 nerf bars today from vendor. WOW:D are they well built and nice. If they go on as good as they look and as well as they are built I will be happy. They are from XL Boards-Willmore Manufacturing. I'll take pics if anybodies interested. As soon as I get my 2005 CC,SB, baby. Hopefully next week she'll show up.:ro) They ( Willmore) also have SS Rocker Panels X-tra Wide for our beasts.

hmmm.....Maybe just my set then....

It seems the front and the rear mounts are pretty solid, but the center mount is useless. They "punch" a hole for the center brace to bolt to, and provide a bolt that "should" cut its own treads, however, nither of mine did. ended up stripping the thrreads on the bolt. I had some other bolts but I had to open the holes slightly to use them, then there isnt enough material for the bolt to "bite". I ended up putting locktight on the bolts, but I am not hopefull that it will last. For what these bars cost, how much more difficult would it have been for them to weld a nut in that location to provide a firm mount?!?!?!!?

I agree, these bars LOOK great, and are very light weight, I just think the quality is lacking for what they cost

MY $.02

Thanx

I have the Westin Platinum, and agree that the crappy self tapping screw in the middle is a cheap design shortcut. I have not had problems yet, but did the same "stripped it and had to use Loctite" exercise. Otherwise, the nerf bars look great and have held up well in 7k miles.

I've seen a lot of rust on the westin chrome's. I have the black and the are pretty good although a little slippery.

Mine are the wheel to wheel and they have 2 inset welded nuts on the middle support, not self tapping screw.

:D I researched and read everything that I could find about nerf bars and decided to go with the Nasta polished stainless. ALL mounting brackets and hardware is stainless and everything is lifetime warrranteed, the price was reasonable, everything fit well, the installation was quick and easy, and they look great. I didn't think that chrome plated or powder coated would stand up to Wisconsin's winter salt. So far I'm more than satisfied with my choice.

I bought a set off of eBay made by Fortis Industries; they're black over stainless. I am very satisfied so far, the mounts are secure and not difficult to install. They support 450 lbs. Oh, the best part was that they cost me $106 shipped to my door. ;)

these next ones really show more of the tires, but you can see the bars.

I have installed 4 inch stainless steel nerfbars (Putco) on mine. They are looking nice. I got the wheel to wheel version. Now I need to install some real wheels because the stockers look extremly small now...

I recently helped a friend of mine install a set of nerf bars. He purchased his from eBay. I could not believe the quality, and the price was exceptional.

Here is the link in case you are interested.

If anyone is interested, I have a pair of chrome wheel-to-wheel Westins for '01-'05 CC SB. They are in great shape and came off my '02 Chevy 2500HD CC SB. I put on a set of Onky's. I liked the looks and the lighting when you get in and out of the truck. I do, however, miss the Westins for the ease ability to step up and take things out of the bed of the truck located up front towards the cab. That is a great feture. :)

If anyone is interested, email steevdog@hotmail.com.

I have the Westin Platinum series on my truck also and couldn't be happier. While I agree that the center mount could have been designed a little better I tapped mine before I tried to use that self tapping bolt and it turned out just fine. The platinum series are chromed stainless steel....so no rusting here. Lifetime warranty also. I sure don't think quality is lacking though.

i have the westins and love em so far. i have the black, not polished or chrome. mine had a nut welded for the middle brace, not a self-tapper.

I got my W2W bars from ebay. I love them. Most have flat bars to support them, and don't curve in at the back, or if they do they just pitch in a hair. Mine curve in under the body in front, and back and have a matching bar welded for the mid point support. Plus, I wasn't going to pay the price that they wanted for westins.
